Dome light problems
«
on:

ok ive finally gotten time to work on my truck again, and want to knock out my dome light problem. Ive gotten the floor light to work a while ago, but i dont know how to wire the dome.
the white wire is connected to the grounds going to the door switches and the dash switch(pretty sure anyway) but the orange wire is cut and hanging by the carpet. Where does this plug into? the fuse panel to a constant power? or is there a spot on the dash switch that gives it power
thanks

Does your truck have a cargo lamp?

heres a pick i just took to help clarify where it goes. The white wire joins the one going between the boor switches and the dash switch, and the orange one has been cut and i dont know where i connect it.

I just looked at mine. My orange and white wires go into a short electrical taped section that looks like your pic. I haven't taken that tape off so I don't know if there's a fusible link in there or what but it (the orange wire) then comes out as an orange wire with a white stripe that plugs into a bat connection near the bottom of the fuse panel. Hope that helps.

I can tell you the dome light fuse is different than the light under the dash. I occasionally blow my horn/dome light 20 AMP fuse. When that happens the horn buzzes a relay under the dash and the dome light dims, wierd. The under the dash light still works.

so does that mean there is a place for it on the fuse panel?
if its kicking the horn one also its probably getting power off the panel directly? ill have to look at it tomorrow when the weather is nicer to see if there is something there.

ya so i should never doubt the abilities of my truck, after all my hunting for a broken wire, apparently i put a single pole bulb into the socket that had 2 poles and that was causing the short in the wires.
after all this a correct bulb and a constant power source and blam

Not sure what year your truck is but on my 87, I have an orange wire that does nothing, as far as I can tell. It runs up under the carpet and to the back of the cab, but it just has a little connector or something on it and is not plugged in. And my dome light is working. Not sure if that helps you or not, but there it is.
