easy 6 in lift?
« on: March 09, 2010, 01:18:12 am »
My buddy told me that i can take the stock rear leafs on my 87 v-10 flip them 180 degrees and put them on the front and get 6 ins of lift on the front and only have to buy 6 in springs for the rear. My question is is this true? Iv heard of this before but i have never tried it.
Thanks,
Mike

Ive never heard of it either. A popular route is buying the 6 in springs for the front, buying 2 in springs for the rear and buying ORD shackles. Their shackles will make the rear 6 in. Or keep your stock rear springs and add a 2 in block to keep stock ride.

yes you can take rear springs and put them on the front of a 88-98 v truck and get 6" of lift but you then have to put a solid axle under it then put in a 73-87 Chevy transfer case and remount spring shackles from lets say a 73-87 Chevy. but it wont work on a 73-87 that has a solid axle it has to be a independent front

So your buddy is telling you to put the leafs from the rear upside down on the front and you'll get 6" of lift?  ???

If you try this I would make your buddy take it for a test drive before you drive it, it just doesn't sound right.

ill have to look into those shackles. thanks...but yes i meant turning the leaf springs 180 degrees not upside down. the only reason i am considering this (if it works) is because i already have a 4 in lift with blocks and 33's. I would like to get 35's and have them not rub while offroading and do not want to buy all 4 leaf springs because if this method works ill only have to buy 2 rear springs.

Trim the fenders.....much cheaper and a whole lot safer....what you plan on doing/have been told is wrong on so many levels. Do it right or don't be on the road.

I think he is getting some lift alternatives swapped.
You can put rear springs on the front, but it requires new hangers and I haven't heard of doing it with lift springs.

The easiest six inch lift will never be easy. Just a warning. I bought the cheapest lift kit I could find, blocks in the rear, springs in the front. Had to change the new ubolts for the correct ones, replace both drivelines, add stainless steel brake lines,  replace the transfer case mounts, and I think theres more that I am not remembering right now. Bottom line is you get what you pay for. But good luck.
