talk about unbelievable
« on: March 14, 2010, 12:05:13 pm »
so yesterday, i get this phone call from the mechanic's daughter who's working on my truck.

"shawn, why'd you take off with dad's cherry picker, he's all pissed off now and wants it back right away."
of course, i hadn't been down to their farm to do ANYTHING to my truck. so my response was immediately aggravated, and i trust nobody, so i'm about 10 seconds away from blatantly making an accusation about them doing something shady with it.

she goes on to tell me, that an older guy, and a chubby kid in a red hoodie drove up onto their property, took their cherry picker, and my engine and tranny. but she didn't think for 2 seconds to stop complete strangers that we were removing equipment and stuff from my truck off of her property?

i tried to be as calm as i could be, and i was like well, there's 2 options, and they're both going to be that i end up with my stuff back. i'm calling the cops now, and i'm positive they'll be over there shortly when they take my report.

few minutes AFTER i send the state police there, oh, it was a misunderstanding. right? someone was borrowing their cherry picker, and loaded up my engine and tranny by mistake. REALLY? how does that even happen? i was like wow yeah, thats funny. ironically, the guy that so called, accidentally took my engine just happened to have it in the back of his truck almost right down the road from my gf's. so i was given his number since he said he wasn't able to return the stuff he took.

i called him, and that's when i blew up. i was like here's the deal, that stuff you have, is stolen. i gave no one permission to remove it from that property. so until it's back in possession, i'll gladly have every single person involved charged with receiving stolen property at the least.

he stopped arguing, and quickly agreed to load my stuff into the back of my suburban for me. apparently, he was told he could HAVE it since i didn't want it.

this aggravation is enuff to make me want to murder someone. i'm renting a tow dolly tomorrow and taking my truck home. i'll have some time next month before the crap with the docs start up gain, hopefully i can make some progress.

This is why you always do everything yourself whenver possible.

i don't know why but when it comes to cars it's hit or miss as far as finding a decent dependable shop.  Every profession has good and not so good, but even more so for the car world for some reason.

It's too bad i'm so busy;  i could drop by and help as i'm not too far away (you can trust me ;)

That's why I never store anything at anyone else's place.  You never know who's snooping around.

Fortunately I have nosy neighbors who know when I leave for work, when I get home, etc.  They even called the house once to see if I was okay because I didn't come home for a couple of days (the wife told them I was away on business).  Nice to know other people look out for you.

Good to hear you got your stuff back!

I keep hearing a lot of stories on some of you guys getting your stuff stolen, broken, vandalized etc... I sympathize but what's the excuse for not having something like this http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=67139 set up where you keep your pride and joy?

There was talk of it, and now someone is trying to steal our rottweilers, so one is on the way

All normal practicality and rational money handling goes out of the window when it comes to my truck.

the way the stories changed and how i was called about it, i knew it was bs from the start. and i was going to start barking and flipping out but then i realized, my truck is still there. so... i just acted non suspicious, stayed friendly. i'm going to tow my truck out tomorrow or tues when the mech is at work. i've got a manual, i tore it apart so i know most of the ins and outs even for a dummy like me i could figure out where things bolt on. i took my engine to the builder in chambersburg, which he said it might be too far gone cuz there was even more water in it from since it was drained. so if it's a dead deal, i'll be looking for a new 350 as i originally had planned.

i'm glad i got the burban, cuz i'd have been screwed last minute having to go repossess my own stuff back. here i was told that the mech working on it traded it off for a cd player for his truck? nah, not gonna fly. i got it back so i can't press charges. otherwise i'd have nailed everyone involved. this truck seems cursed, so i'm even more determined to get it done. i'm taking it home to my grandmas. i know no one is gonna touch it there, i do have a rottweiler in my garage, so i dare someone else trespass. not to mention it's camp hill, there's really no crime rate theer lol
