No spark 86 suburban-Fixed with new problem-
«

Hey everybody I have a 86 suburban with a 350 that died on me awhile ago it just sputtered and quit. I finally got a chance to mess with it today. I pulled a spark plug and am getting no spark but the coil is good is there something in the distributor that could kill my spark? At first I thought it was the fuel pump but when I put some gas in the carb and the engine did nothing it just kept turning over is that from no spark? Thanks in advance.

It's most likely the ignition module.

Is that in the distributor?

i just had to change my module out last week. yes, it is a black electronic gizmo in the distributor. Your HEI distributor looks a little different than my '91 distirbutor, but you get the idea...

if your coil is good then it could be the module or the pick up coil I had a pick up coil go bad on me once replaced the coil put it all back in working order, nothing so I replaced the icm still nothing then the coil was the last thing to replace and it did it

You'll find the problem more intermittent (usually worse when warm) if it's the pick up coil.

I figured it out it was a stripped wire that connects to the ignition module. I taped it up and she fired right up. I was driving it around and before it will shift you have to let off of the gas a little does anyone have a clue about that?

Did you knock the vacuum hose off for the modulator?

I did see a vacuum line not connected in front of the carb alittle toward the passenger side could that be it? If not could you explain where it is.

What trans do you have? The vacuum modulator is located on the rear of the trans on the pass side for the TH350 and TH400. There should be vacuum present at the modulator. Follow the hose from the modulator and make sure it's conected to manifold vacuum. If you have a 700R4 check the TV cable adjustment. It's located in the throttle bracket. If you do a search of either you'll see several how to posts.
