How hard is it going to be to fit these in my '84?
« on: April 03, 2010, 01:27:38 pm »
Well as some of you may have read in my last post, I just found my dream truck. It's a fully restored '84 K10 SWB 4x4. Well I've had it for about two weeks and the only thing I don't like about it is the bench seat. It's a nice seat, 100% perfect condition, smells new, but it's just very uncomfortable with me being about 6' tall. Now I'm not saying it's horrible, it's just not what I'd like to keep in the truck. I've been reading on here about seat swaps and brakets, and all that. Well here is my question. I found a set of really nice buckets with the flip up center console with the little jump seat underneath. Guy claims they fit '2000 and up Chevys. I can get a decent deal on them.
1.) Can I make them fit?
2.) what's the easiest way? Buy brackets? Try to attatch my '84 brakets to the seats? Or modify the floor of the truck?
3.) I'd rather not "chop" on my truck at all. If it required me to, I'd prolly just leave the bench in there and call it good.
4.) If these seats won't easily fit, then what year models will?

Any help would be greatly apprecited.
Thanks,
Trevor

Sounds like you would have to make some floor brackets, and there is easier buckets to use like 80s and early 90s suburbans and k5 blazers have buckets that should use the stock floor backets

burb and blazers don't have a hump in the rear if the floor so you have to mod even them. as far as attaching buckets to stock frame of the bench they would all be togeather like a bench  seat its not a bad trade off for buckets but even if you make your own brackets you probably have to cut/ welt/ your floor to make more bolt holes to make them just like they were on the 200 truck. and about just moving the seats over to the bench seat frame you might want to measure the hight of the 200 seat from and conpair it top ours see if you have to move it up or down to get it to look and feel right you be amazed what a couple inched will do

  :P

The ones in my 85 are from a 2001 Silverado, integrated seat belts and console. I probably didn't do mine the "right" way but I did what works for me.

If it's not a concern for you to be able to move the seats forward or back, I just removed the slides off of the bottom of the seats and made a frame out of flat steel stock to run around the base of the seat to make it solid again, and just drilled new holes to mount to the floor. The only downside is that if a shorter person wants to drive my seat won't move closer to the wheel. But I'm 6'4" and don't want anyone else driving my truck anyways.  ;D

Hey thanks for that pic. Those are the exact same seats that I've been looking at. I can get a set that's brand new never installed still in plastic for $300. I thought that was a really good deal provided that I could get them to fit in the truck.

I've read how some of the older ('90's) model buckets would fit easier, but I'm wanting seats that are "like new" or new, meaning not worn at all. I don't really want to get older seats recovered either unless I just have to as a only option type deal. I have a set of buckets and a center console out of a '79 GMC Jimmy, but they are shot and would have to be completly rebuilt and the console would have to be stripped/sanded and refinished. I would really like to find a set of buckets out of a 95-97 model chevy, but all the ones I've looked at are broke down and rough.

After seeing a pic of the '2000 model seats in these older trucks I must say that they do look a bit out of place. They just don't flow well with the rest of the interior, but why would they there is a 20 year differnece there.

I never really thought that they look out of place, I actually think that they look better than just the factory bench, and it sits so much more comfortably. lol. They look better though now that I have gotten the plastic side skirts on and with door panels.
