4 wheel drive knowledge needed

i got a 79 k-10 p/u ---------350/350/203....
ok........drove it to the mud bog yesterday and had an absolute blast. was my first one driving inside the bog though.
mostly just to have fun w my boy and pull guys out.
question....even though the ol truck was a beast and performed great i noticed that even in L-loc pulling someone backwards out
of stuff, not all my wheels (front) would turn. also a little wonder here and there at times throughout the day. it may have been working just fine but can someonr tell me how the 203
is supposed to behave in certain situations so i will know what to expect/or if its broke? i kmnow that may be a lengthy answer but i promise
anything responded will go to educating a man who will not let any knowledge go to waste. is there just a way to have them spin all wheels
all the time for maximum awesomeness? thats what i thought l-loc was. next time i creep off into something i would love to know its all there with me. being stuck cause all wheels wouldnt turn would be embarassing, please help.

LOC position in the transfer case locks the interaxle differential so it should only be used off-road. However this doesn't mean all four wheels will receive power flow. If you are offroading a set of differential lockers will be your simplest least expensive way out. I don't recommend lockers for street use though in the front differential but if you feel that you need more front traction then that'd be the way to go if you aren't doing a lot of street driving. An air locker is a better option if it's used for both street and offroad.

here is the scoop on that.
i really dont believe in having a mud only truck. i see it more if u come to my house or call and say (hey im stuck)
i gotta be able to drive on the road to get there. but i think what i had in the mud was enough for that mud.
but what if youre really stuck? i may need to have a lot of nasty to pull out. my truck (imo) has to be dependable even if that means
buying the bigger everything/ anything. i never sell anything, so lets make it all it can be. any advice on that?
when pulling backward my fronts may have been pulling and the back spinning, but couldnt tell/need to know.

remember that if you use a part of your tire for power that part can't be used for turning. So if you use your truck for driving on the road in snow you don't want a full time locker up front a air locker would be best. If you truck will only see the road to get to a mud hole the a full time locker would be about 4-500 $ cheaper than air. In the rear a locker is no problem

Put a locker or limited slip differential in the rear and an air locker up front.
