Service Engine Soon ????

Any ideas?   I went for a ride today and the truck stalled three times, once while rolling idle in parking lot, second doing about 40mph down hill and third in the driveway idling while parked.  Truck is full of gas, is 454 TBI, both batteries, cables, starter and alternator about a year old.  Volt gauge was just under 13 in the dash.  Whipped out the code reader, key on, engine off all I got was 12, typical since it isn't running.  Key on, engine running, the service engine soon light just kept blinking continually, somewhat rapidly too.  My book doesn't say anything about that condition. Anyone ever have that happen before?  Right now going back to a carb is looking!

If you have the jumper in the reader it is going to flash constantly if the truck is running.
I am guessing you mean it just died as I think of stalling as you were moving and it paused and then caught up.
What does the fuel pressure look like?  Any leaks on the TBI?

Going to a Carb would be adding to your problems in my opinion.

How is your fuel filter? It does wonders for drivability issues in my opinion.

It will keep flashing if you leave the code reader in with the engine running. If it's losing fuel pressure you won't get a code. Check your fuel pressure and see where it's at. Check all of the basics, ignition components etc,.

My code scanner is an Actron CP9001 for GM and Saturn.  It worked perfect on my 89 full size Blazer with a TBI 350.  I have no means to check the fuel pressure on my own.  I was thinking it had something to do with the EGR so I plugged the line off the TBI and took it for a ride.  Seemed to be fine, off idle pulling out seemed better than ever, full throttle acceleration up through the gears was fine.  Pulled back in the driveway, let it idle for a while and died again after about two minutes.  If there was a problem with the filter or fuel pressure why would it run fine at full throttle?  My scanner has 3 prongs, two side by side, to the right of center on top, the third is to the left on center on the bottom.
