Underground Exterminator - could this work?

Alright so here's the deal... I'm really tired of fighting the good fight with my gopher problem. I came across this product at my local ACE hardware, and I'm almost embarrassed to say that I actually have a glimmer of hope that this thing will work. It's a very basic concept, the device couples a garden hose to your exhaust pipe, which is then fed into the gopher tunnel. You let your vehicle idle for 20 to 30 minutes and the fumes kill all the critters in the tunnel. Now... has my desperation blinded me to the point of buying into the lies of a money sucking gimmick, or could this actually work?

Seems like a standard variety male profalactic device with an end clipped off would join the hose to the pipe

If the price is right, why not. BUT I would take into consideration the distance of your neighbors as well as the possibility of gopher holes under your house. CO is very poisonous, obviously, and has no odor. Be cautious that it doesnt leak into the houses. Just because you dont smell exhaust in your house, doesnt mean that the CO made its way there.

Now if your sure there arent any escape routes for the exhaust under a house, then I dont see a problem. Maybe consult a exterminator, although they might suggest otherwise since you are intruding into their business of making money.

seems like exhaust back pressure issues could take place.  Just don't rev it up--there is  a reason your exhaust is at leat 1 3/4 inches in diameter.  ensure the end of the hose doesnt lay up up against the dirt--there should be an avenue of venting (thru another hole or something) to avoid too much exhaust back pressure.

now this would seem to work but the rodent wont have its nest that close to the opening of a hole. also since they burrow so close to the serface of the ground making all them cracks on the top i think the pressure would bust through the ground making multiple leaks and it might not be as effective as it seams good ideal but this seams better

I like a 22-250 for woodchucks. Where we live right now I couldn't shoot one. I do know what you are up against. I have gopher problems under my shed, apparently a skunk took over the lease under my shed this spring.

wow im surprised they sell that hose thing. Its like a suicide in a box kit. I mean with everyone being very PC these days, there wasnt anyone who wanted it off the selves yet.

Well... I just tried it. And... I don't think it's going to work. I tried this on my beater car (2000 Ford Focus) in case anything went wrong. I connected the device onto the tailpipe and proceeded to start the engine. It tried to turn over and then died. I thought... hmmm... interesting. So I tried again and the Underground Exterminator blew off of the tailpipe! At that point I thought well let me loosen the thing a bit and try again. I did and all the exhaust fumes escaped without going into the hose. After assessing the situation I really doubt the thing would work even if I got it to clamp onto the tailpipe correctly. There are just too many escape points for the fumes. I mean... the stinking gophers have made so many holes in my yard I don't know how in the world I would ever make the ground air tight. Oh well... that's what receipts are for I guess.

Maybe some argon down the hole?  its heavier than air so it would fill the burrows like water...   there's a warning on that stuff that while its inert and not dangerous it will displace oxygen and you could essentially drown in it if it all gathered in a low spot somewhere and you went down in it.     Might work if you're on flat land.   Or get a Jack Russel.

Sounds like the best way and you get to see fights once in a while,my neighbours cat was tackling a sewer rat half its length just yesterday and it was hilarious to watch..end result rat with no head...job done.

what's wrong with using duct tape and a garden hose....just wrap duct tape, with the hose stuck inside the pipe, around and around and around.
