Got pulled over today
« on: April 25, 2010, 12:21:30 am »
hi all,
i got pulled over today by the emission people in ontario and got slapped with a 360$ fine. apparently even without testing, i need to have:
cats, EGR, AIR pump on there to be legal.  my truck has never had any of these( the PO didnt say anything about it either)

cats is an easy fix, but what about the air system and crap like that? does anyone know an easy fix for this seing as my manifolds dont have any plugs or anything like that.

im at a loss here, anyone know what i can do ?they were only pulling over and inspecting older cars, and i was just moving outta college.

what a day.

if your truck didn't come from the factory, usually you don't need them. EGR it prolly did. Your best bet would be to pull them from a boneyard.

You should have asticker that tells you what you should have under the hood. As far as the cat you should have one

Morgan what are ya working on? year?
Vile/Capn'
When did cats become Standard on trucks? They were on all cars in 75 or 76? Wasn't it a couple years later for trucks? We should get educated about this stuff! More and more these states we live in are hurting for more money and they are burning everyone they can. We must protect ourselves. We need documented proof to carry with us. Like this guy if he was driving a 75 and the cops stop him he is armed with proof stating that Cats were standard in 78. The A.I.R. pump is mostly on all Cali trucks. EGRs came in about 74. See even if you get a ticket and you prove them wrong in court you still have to pay court cost and around here thats about 150 bucks.
How about a sticky with this info that guys can copy and carry in their trucks.

Hollow out those cats and install them.

I would verify what's on the VECI label under the hood. Whatever is there is what your truck is supposed to have. 1975 catalytic converters were standard unless it said on the VECI label NON-CATALYST. Diesels and heavy duty applications were made exempt in many states.

Armor, post all of your vehicle information and let us know what's on the label.

its an 81 truck, origionally had a 6 according to the officer. apparently they had a line to decode the vin and said it needed all that stuff( i never knew it needed emision stuff after not needing an E-test)

the problem is that i dont have any of the stickers at all. The front end of th truck is a 79, it was changed over by the PO. i guess i can get the information package from GM i hear it costs like 50-100 to get all the factory information off it.

you are a defendant.  Why would you pay court filing costs?   If you lose, you pay fine.  If you win, you pay nothing.  Not even Kalifornikstania is that backwards where the defendant wins a case and pays court costs and filing fees.  ???

Also, I don't know 'bout Canada, but, in the USA, your state may not have sniff testing, but, still remember, any removal of Emissions stuff on a vehicle is against the law. It's just rarely enforced.

Ontario has emissions cops that go around pulling people over? Seriously? Wow. Even here in wannabe-California BC, they don't do that. It's actually very easy to circumvent the requirement to have pickups (which are all considered commercial vehicles here but SUV's are not) emissions tested and it's completely legal to.

i go to school in oshawa ontario and they are nazi's there for emissions. although ive been there for 4 years and this is the first time i got snagged by a mobile team in the middle of nowhere(literally nowhere and they pulled me). I just got a set of magnaflow cats to match my mufflers because i want it a bit quieter anyway, and im looking into getting some of the other stuff, but no real hurry.

also, apparently you can register a vehicle as a hotrod if the motor in it was not available from the factory, i was wondering if anyone has done this? just wondering because a parts guy i know is doing an s10 with a motor that way so he only has to pass a test for a 1980 truck or something, with no "required" emmission equipment, just has to pass, and he did with just cats.

anyone know if there would be problems with that in regards to the registerng or insurance? also if i build a 383 outta my 350 or find a 400 or something lol.

i dunno, just thinking of different ideas.
