opinions wanted!!
« on: May 06, 2010, 10:56:12 am »
i have a 4" suspension lift and am looking for a cheap all around good tire. this is not a dd and will be on the pavement 95% of the time. my question is i want something that is not going to look super small in the wheel well. i was thinking about 33x12.5 but was wondering what the metric equivalent is to that and what are some brand that would be fairly cheap. i am not looking to spend over 200.00 per tire. thanks

315/75/16 is the close metric equivalent.  Did you say it IS your DD or isn't?  If so, I love Cooper STTs for street and light trail duty.  They lasted me 65k miles rotated every 5k.

I am a cooper dealer for my area and cooper discover stt will NOT last 65k maybe the old style ones but not the new style. I have yet to have a customer get more thatn 25k. 305/70r16 basically the same as 33x1250r16. they are a bit wider. 285/75r16 on a 10 inch wide wheel is my preference for a 33x1250 look alike. The cooper discover s/t (not to be confused with old style or new style stt)is a good on/light off road use tire. I believe I sell these in a 285 for like 185-190 mounted and balanced. I am not at my shop so I cant look at the exact price. DO NOT buy your tires from jegs or summit. If anything I have seen tirerack sells their tires for about 10-15 percent over my cost. Plus they charge mount and balance(if you buy tire/wheel package) plus shipping.

to be fair, I probably had 20k of those miles on dirt county roads, but 2 full sets of 285/75/16s with 60k and 65k miles.  Our geophysical contractor uses Toyo m/t on all their field trucks and they look sweet.  They must really hold up well or they wouldn't be using them.

i have bought tires from jegs/summit since i am with in driving distance of each then had another shop mount them,

and milage out for tires depend on what it is on and how often it is rotated.

If you get ATRs do not use them on gravel in the last 2 years they changed their rubber compound and they have all seperated that I have sold They seem to "rock chip really really bad" And once that rubber gets chipped it exposes the steel to the elements and causes them to seperate. Cooper has been warranting them but it is pro-rated.

thanks for all the feed back guys. i have a friend that works in a tire place so i am going to order them from him. (no discount though! :'() he said he would mount and balance them for a case a beer i thought that was a more than fair deal!! this truck might see 2000-4000 miles  a year so i am not concerned with  getting 65000 miles out of the tires. just wanted some tires that look good but function good as well since they will be on the road 99% of the time.
