Gotta get my truck home
« on: May 06, 2010, 01:22:25 pm »
Ok guys I live in Florida and I need to get my truck home cause its at one of my buddies shops right, but we had to take the bed off and that means it has no brake lights or turn signals. Does anyone know of a way to drive it home legally. I looked at removable tail lights like wreckers use but they are like $50 and I can't see using them that often. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated thanks.

harbor freight (or even advanced auto or autozone) has a set of trailer tailights for around $14.00.

your truck should have a trailer harness attachment, either a flat 5 pin plug, or a round one, or even a 7 pin trailer receiver plug.  Take some wire and wire up a set of trailer lights.  Plug them into your trailer harness. They are held by two little screws each.  You may have to drill two holes to attach them.

make sure your gas tank neck is in place and the like.

go to advanceauto.com and type in trailer lights.

Just mount your tail lights to the bumper

Depending on the length of the trip why not hand signals ?

i did just a vile sugusted when i had to drive my truck home with no bed. Just used a few zipties. only thing was i had to run a ground wire from the driver side tail light to the frame. The truck broke the tires loose with no weight on the rear :P
