LCA repair or not..?
« on: May 15, 2010, 10:15:55 am »
Would this be fixable with a bit heat then bent back to shape,i was a bit surprised when the old bush just dropped out compared to the other side that put a good fight in... :o
Thanks in advance.

With a little heat it should be fine. i did mine last weekend and for the lowers, only one part actually grips the bushing. If you look at the pic, the left side of the mounts holds the bushing. You might not even need heat to bend it back. I dont think it needs to be perfect, since on mine one of them was pretty bent, and it had its original bushings in it.

Thanks for the reply,
I'll work on it tomorrow morning and see if it comes right, just realised the same side of the truck has a bent outer tie rod also, must have bashed a rock or curb somewhere in its life.

Try to reposition it without heat. I'm doing my lower control arms now. I just stripped them and am sending them off to the powdrer coaters. I got the same bushings as you.

My control arms looked alot like that.  I took them to a mechanic buddy of mine and he said that happens to many of the older GM trucks and cars too, just through normal wear and tear.  He said that as long as the hole is not all messed up it holds the bushing then there is no need to replace it.  I tried to bend mine back and did not want to use any heat to do so, it wouldn't budge so I just left it like it was.  Hope it works out for you.

Mine had been bashed as its chewed underneath and the tie rod is bent also, managed to get it pretty close to original with a wedge pressed between the mount holes.. ;D
