1980's era Alpine, Panasonic etc......
« on: May 26, 2010, 05:10:23 pm »
I think I have looked everywhere to try and find some information on what radios were available in the 80's from the major car audio manufacturers.  I cant find any old catalogs or anything with model or reference numbers.  Any ideas?  I would really like to find an old Alpine or Panasonic or Pioneer that would fit the original bezel. I know that the good ol' pawn shop is a good place to luck, but I wanted some sort of reference material. Any suggestions?  I do like the new Retro's but I have to exhaust this search first.  You know how it is......thanks.

Old skool Alpine is my favorite kind of car audio. If you are looking for a 2-pole head unit to fit the stock location, check on Ebay and search for "Alpine 71*" and "Alpine 72*" . Leave out the " marks obviously when searching. Those will bring up those old series of head units which were popular back in the day. Usually the 72-series had better features and higher-end than the 71-series.

Alpine has the highest sound quality in the industry, at least. I think their main competitor for that is pioneer, these days.

I had an alpine post cassette player that was in 4 vehicles. It was the best one I ever had. I'm going to cut the dash in mine this time so that I can have a cd player. I never wanted to do that but this time I need better tunes.

As in a tape deck? Who knew anyone would want one? I took the one that was in my mutt which was an alpine with an amp and threw it right in the garbage. Had I  known you guys still used tape decks I would've offered it up for free on here.

It's been about ten years since I have seen that radio. I should look to see if I still got it.

Most 80's Bmw's VAG etc had Blaupunkt, alpine etc as an option in the head unit department, well over here they did, might be worth looking in a breakers yard etc...if you cant find what you want give me a shout with the model # and i'll have a look around and ship one out to you... ;)
