Sorta barn find, actually out in the woods
« on: May 29, 2010, 07:47:34 pm »
I just returned from an almost 600 mile round trip.  Truck has been sitting in the woods for about 8 years, still has brakes.  Came with a Tommy Lift.  Also bought a passenger side door, all for just under $280 gas included.  The only rust through areas are cab corners, couldn't believe it.  Now I have some clean stuff to put on my 85.  Nice dual tank bed...

Good job. Grab the parts you need off of it and junk it like Irish said. Scrap is down now but you should still make some money on the deal.

Nice find. Cheap find.  up here guys would still want at least $1500.00 even if it does not run  I am just curious were dual tank trucks rare in the US ?  seems like guys get pretty "excited" about dual tank trucks but up here it was/is rare to see one without dual tanks?

like I said just curious.

I don't know the rarity on the dual tanks.  My 85 actually had a single from the factory however my uncle hung a right side tank on it when it was a few years old and drilled a hole through the bed and installed the pre-gas door filler setup which was cobbled up.  I was looking for a replacement bed for a while now.

Most of the ones I have experience were 1/2 and 1/2 on the tanks with duals edging the singles out.

The deal is getting sweeter by the day.  OK... sold the Tommy Lift last night.  I did all my Saturday chores so I decided to see if the old girl would run.  After changing the gas filter and putting a gallon of gas in it, she fired right up.  Choke was stuck but once it warmed up, it runs pretty good, no blow by and the oil is full and fairly clean.  Under the oil cap the rocker arms are nice and clean, might just have a decent engine in it.  Went right into gear and moved under its own power.  A week ago I got my 85 looking halfway decent again from my deer mishap a few months ago.

Theres just something about these old chevys. Let em sit for a decade, and then you can still fire em right up and drive around.

All normal practicality and rational money handling goes out of the window when it comes to my truck.
