K-30 build, 1st post!
« on: July 03, 2010, 03:31:40 am »
Hi to All,

Well here we go, I have started this build using an 1985 5/4 ton M1008 cucv Chassis and the springs and 4:56 axles that came with it, and thats all that will be used from the military truck. the frame and springs and axles have been sandblasted, etched, epoxy primmered and Imeron topcoated (New England proof). the cab and bed are from a C-10 Arizona rust free truck (also 85). My first issue I am looking for info on is the brake system. I have converted the rear to disc using the 79 Eldorado calipers with park brake. and I am planning on using the Vac boost and master cyl from one of my K-20's origally the cucv used the hydro-boosetd brake system, will the vaccum sys from the K-20 work ok with the massive calipers on the Dana -60 front? or should I start looking for a hydro boost system to install? any info will be a be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

why not use the hydro that came with the truck?  its my understanding this system brakes way better than the vacuum boost system.  i would like to go the other direction and put a hydro boost on instead of my vacuum boost system

Your vacuum booster should work just fine.

I should also add that the vac booster will be more trouble free. I.e. no hydraulic lines to leak or get in the way.

Thanks to all for the welcome,  I am overseas 20 days each month based out of the Middle East flying mostly food items and supplies for the troops and it is awesome to come to this site and wind down and read for hours on end about everybodys projects. I am still figuring out how to navigate the site, but getting there. My K-30 project will be a slow going project as I only get a few days at best at home every month to work on it I figure 2 yrs to comleation or divorse and compleation in 1 or 2 months hmmmmm.

                                                                                Thanks Again Everyone!
