1986 Chevy Fuel Guage Nightmare
« on: July 06, 2010, 12:09:16 pm »
I am at my Witts end yall.

I have a 86 Chevy Silverado.  It has dual Tanks.

Passenger side tank is off truck do to it being rusted out.  The drivers side is good.

I replaced the fuel sending unit in tank due to the guage not working.  I encountered the fuel guage still not working.

I quickly realized that the truck was stuck on the RH gas tank.  I could not get it to switch back to the LH.  I hear it trying to switch, but it never did.  I took the hoses  near the switch over area under the truck and ran them so that my truck would be able to get the gas to drive.

Confusing...yes....my guage still does not work....I am wondering what yall think I need to do.

Thanks.

If you've bypassed the switching valve then simply connect the gauge wire to the harness bypassing the selector switch also. Or replace the switching valve if the switch in the dash is good.

Hey thanks for the input...I chased wires and found the wire coming out of the fuse block had been cut and put back together...when I took the tape off it was not connected...problem fixed!

Glad it turned out to be a simple fix.
