brock quadrajet help!

i have a brock quadrajet carb that has been acting really weird lately over the past month..i saw a post with a simliar problem but mine seems a little more then just that...put a new distrubor cap and rotor,turned up the idel to 800 it seems like the carb is loading up with fuel and when i put it into gear it dies within a min...but i also noticed on my way to work tonight tryin to fit into a tight parking spot that if i can turn my steering wheel all the way to the left it shuts the motor off...ANY TIPS OR HELP???

He means the Edelbrock Q-jet. All Edelbrock did with these carbs is rebuild them, set them up overly rich and put and Edelbrock sticker on them. If it's suddenly stalling I would verify your timing and vacuum advance. From there adjust your idle mixture and idle speed. Verify you have no vacuum leaks.

timing is right and its not suddenly stalling..its after about minute but it idels in park ok

and i have set my idle a little higher also only seems to really die out when im sitting at a stop light in gear...

By suddenly I meant it wasn't doing it before and now it is. So therefore I'm assuming it worked and ran fine before???

If that is the case verify the timing advance, check for fuel restriction and proper volume as well as check for vacuum leaks. How do you have the vacuum advance set? Ported or manifold vacuum?

yes it started happening about a month ago..Ran Fine before this..and to be honest im not sure about the Vacumm advance set how can i tell?..i dont think its a leak what would be a good way of checking?

The easiest way to check for ported vs. manifold vacuum is to check to see if you have vacuum at idle or if if you crack the throttle then you get vacuum. Ported is off idle vacuum and manifold is when you have vacuum usually when the throttle is closed.

Finding vacuum leaks can be a challenge. Look at your vacuum hoses to see if you have any loose connections or failing tubing (ie that's falling apart). You can spray like a WD-40 or other substance around areas like the carb flange, intake, and other places to see if the engine speed changes as it sucks in the fluid. You might see if the nuts holding the carb on could take a little turn (don't man-handle it, otherwise you may warp and then you WILL have a vacuum leak). Using the spray fluid method can usually help detect big leaks, you may have a small one that's just a pain to find.

i have ported then cause i have vaccum during idle...right..and ok ill try that tonight when im off work wd40 wont hurt the carb or motor if it gets inside will it?

Sorry, I think you misunderstood me. Vacuum at idle is manifold. When you're not at idle and you've got vacuum but none at idle is ported.

Unless you spray half a can on the engine and it's got a huge leak, you should be ok.
