Sound Deadening Product

Has anyone used this stuff before? For around $150 (not including shipping) with spray gun this stuff seems like a good deal.

Don't mistake it for second skin. Second Skin is a superior product. Also remember that the "butyl" is just a dampner. It is not a noise blocker. It makes panels stop resonating. It is the mass loaded vinyl barriers and acoustical foams that block road noise.

For great increase in cab silence this is the order - Dampner (just about any product will work, even peel and seal roofing stuff), acoustical foam ontop of the dampner, then the mass loaded vinyl.

Foam absorbs the waves of sound, and the vinyl blocks it from the rest of the cab interior.

Hope this helps.

Been watching every weekend for long time, kinda annoying now though cause I've seen them all and they don't make new ones near as often as they should lol.

Second skin also has a higher price tag. As for the foam and vinyl, I don't see how people manage to get all that stuff to fit under their carpet. You only got so much room between the carpet and the bottom of your very bottom panels. (think of the kick panels in the 73-87) Second skin wants you to spend $2000 on a layer of butyl mat, a layer of that spray sludge, a layer of some kind of vinyl, and a layer of foam. Sure your truck will sound like the inside of a new rolls royce but is it worth the money? I think a layer of Dynamat at $350 is plenty.

I have been wanting them to finish that 70's Ford for like a year now. I think they bit off more than they could chew with that one lol. The one where they used the dodge frame and cummins engine.

You can turn out a better result with Cascade, and its cheaper AND better than second skin. Total price shipped to my door on everything needed to dampen/barrier an entire 73-87 regular cab, minus cleanup materials and a roller for the thermal coat, is about $495, shipping may vary for you. A full dampen/barrier/shield with cascade is also fairly lightweight. Plus, it will leave your truck with an entire coverage R-Value of atleast R12..If I ever get the k5 I'm planning the build for, I'll measure and price it for Cascade as well.

I bought this for mine 2 years ago.

http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_24&products_id=51

It applied easier and stuck better than any other sound mat I've ever used.   2 years later everythings exactly where I left it and the doors dont sound like coffee cans anymore...    I'd recommend this to anyone.   DO GET A ROLLER, And this stuffs SUPER sticky.  I didn't even need a heat gun, and I put it on in 60 degree weather.

500 is still steep for me atm, If a cheaper alternative doesn't help as good I can deal with it for awhile, really just looking to not skip any steps on the build now, can always put in something better down the road. Thanks for replys guys.

Yeah I remember that one, haven't seen anything on that in awhile. Looks like a nice build though. I liked that one which I believe 4x4 did when they built the entire truck and goose neck trailer with just a frame. Looked like a hummer.

Just curious, but how do you know that Cascade works better in the end that Second Skin? I was thinking of using Cascade to do some more stuff on my truck, but I wasn't really sure if they would actually be any cheaper. But if they are better and cheaper, I'm all over that.

Well, you can do like I did and just do a little at a time. You can buy enough to do one chunk at a time, and not really have to skip steps. I don't know if most people do this part, but I did. The roof is a step that is independent of the others, when it comes to sound deadening. As are the doors. The floor is a big step, but you could always do that last. The bottom side of the hood is also a big one. You wouldn't think so, but if you deaden it correctly, it actually reduces noise in the cab. At least, that's what I noticed.

There might be a lower cost alternative to soundproofing.

Take a look at this site:
http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi

You can buy the individual products in larger quantities from vendors for less money.

I've sat in two identical cars with identical sound systems (1998 nissan maxima, Eclipse AVN5510, TRU Super Billet B6 amp, Dynaudio Esotec 362/Dynaudio Esotec MW172s, Dynaudio Esotar 1200), the only differences were in the suspension and drivetrain, and one was lined with Damplifier Pro, Luxury Liner (with the open cell foam, not the new stuff that requires you to purchase the foam separately), and Thermal Block. The other, lined with Cascade VB2HD, VB4, and two coats of TG1. Both products were good, and performed well, but the cascade was lighter, reduced more buzz when the Esotar was on, and kept nearly every sound in the car, IN the car, and everything outside, as outside as you can get in anything but a soundproof airlock. The second skin still allowed a passerby to hear the lyrics of a song being played inside, from 10 feet away. On a 1-10 scale, Dynamat gets a 3, Dynamat Extreme gets a 5, Second Skin gets a 9.9, and Cascade gets an 11.

Though I will also add, with those sound systems, you could be rocking a radio flyer with a battery and still be in acoustic heaven....After paying for it, a radio flyer might be all I could afford to drive and live in.  :D

Hey guys started looking into http://www.cascadeaudio.com/ and was wondering which of these products do you recommend? Dampener, Barrier, and Absorber? Looking to either spray on or roll on, unless someone says another way is better.
