th350 shift arm/shaft seal?

ANyone know if the shift arm/shaft that your linkage bracket bolts to, the thing that changes gears, little nub that sticks out, does it have a seal? ANyone know where to buy said seal? other then in a rebuild kit hopefully? Also can that shaft be tightened up I can move the one I got 1/4 or so in or out.

It's called the shift shaft seal. I have the special tool for R&R them. It's supposed to float

crap it needs a special tool then to change it?

I was worried about it floating that far, didn't think it was supposed to move that much. I don't remember it moving that much a couple years ago.

You don't need it but it makes life easier!

some one said  you drop the pan to get to the nut that holds it, not a big deal for me, needs pan gasket anyways but do you STILL need to tool if you drop the pan? Someone also said without the tool it'll leak, and if so I aint gonna touch it, just let it keep leaking.

You don't drop the pan to replace the seal. You remove the clevis pin and shift linkage, then the nut. You remove the seal, clean the area, lubricate and install new seal. Reverse the rest. If you want the tool just google shift shat seal tool.

thanks for the info if I gotta have the tool I'll leave it alone, I thought you had to drop the pan as that's what others said and is fine by me but if not then I won't mess with it.

Dropping the pan has nothing to do with the shift shaft seal.

well I just tore apart the old th350 I had laying around and dropping the pan will let you change the seal by removing the whole arm/shaft that comes out, tak a screwdriver and pop the old seal out, then tap in the new one with a hammer or socket around the same size as the seal.
