Shaving the firewall seam
« on: August 08, 2010, 11:20:19 pm »
Hey all, I know there's been a thread or two asking how to shave the pinch welds on the firewall and I understand that part of it, but what about that big overlap that goes across the whole firewall?  What would be the best method for that?  Like would it work to cut along the edge of the overlapping piece and then bend it in slightly to be flush with the bottom part and then weld in between?  Or is there another method that works better?

Ah, just saw that, looks pretty sweet!  But how hard was it to make and put on?  I'd still need the holes for the blower motor, wiper motor, fuse block, etc., so it seems like a lot of work to do that method....unless you wanna make another one of those firewall skins and send it my way  ;D  It would probably look nicer than modding the stock firewall, though.

I saved the template. All you need is the sheet metal and the plasma cutter. If you were close by I could help you out. The only thing I can suggest is making some small filler panels and mudding it up.

Nice work!  So you just ran a bead along the seam and then used a grinder to make it flat?
