ECU problem....

Have just bought an 88 Chevy Blazer with a 350 tbi, not collected it yet though, but the guy I’m buying it off says it has an ECU problem.

He said it cuts out occasionally when at idle. He says sometimes you can drive for 2 hours without a problem, sometimes 5 minutes. He said he’s had it plugged in to a diagnostic machine, and it threw up some error codes, he’s checked all the sensors and replaced them but this hasn’t solved the problem.....

He says that when it goes to cut out, if you keep your foot on the gas it won’t cut out, double pedaling he called it....

Has anyone had any similar problems??? Is it likely to be the ECU or could it be more???

Almost sounds like fuel pump. . . . .

I would check the fuel pressure also.

When the fuel pumps a about to die can it be an intermittent fault....??

Think the 88 have a rubber line in the tank about 2" long it goes between the pump and assembly it can and will crack causing the truck to act like it meds a tune up and spit and stumble. I know the 89 c/k have it and I would think the 88 k5s also would

I doubt it's the ECM. When you get it, clear the codes by disconnecting the battery negative for about 30 seconds. Drive it and let us know what it does. As far as the fuel pump yes they as well as the circuit associated with the fuel pump can have intermittent problems but we can walk you right through it.
