NV4500 Conversion Info Please
« on: August 18, 2010, 09:30:46 pm »
Well, let me start by saying i got a heck of a deal on an NV4500 for my 86 K20...  $428 at my local junkyard, they pulled it!  I couldnt pass that up.  So, yea, now i'm trying to get some more info so i can get this thing going.

So, the trans came out of a 96 Chevy K2500, truck had a 350 in it.  At this point, my main question is about the slave cylinder & bellhousing.  I noticed that truck had the internal slave cylinder.  will this work in my truck?  will i be able to use the factory bellhousing from the 96?  or will i have to use an external slave cylinder and get the bellhousing from advance adapters?  not majorly concerned at this moment, but its something i noticed right off the bat.

also, i know this trans requires specific fluid thats only available from either GM or Castrol.  anyone know the specific name for the fluid or does anyone know a part number?

thanks to all in advance!

You should be able to use the starter, slave, bell, master, shifter, etc from the donor without issue. As far as fluid it calls for New Venture Gear 4500 Castrol Syntorq LT Transmission Fluid. It's basically GL4 Synthetic but you can get it from GM or Dodge dealers. There are also aftermarket synthetic m/t fluids that are better and less expensive.

awesome, so i may have just saved myself some money on parts.

there is one thing that i was just thinkin about that has me concerned.  when the junkyard pulled the trans, they cut that braided hose from the master cyl to the slave cyl.  anyone know where i can get a new one?  so far, in my small amount of browsing, ive come up with nothing.
