Installing Air Conditioning in an 82 Sierra
« on: August 23, 2010, 08:53:03 pm »
Hey guys I just bought an 82 Sierra k2500 with a crate 350 and a 4 speed tranny and was wondering how difficult and expensive it would be to put a/c in the truck.  I started to look online for replacement a/c parts as if it already had it and realized that there was a lot more parts than i imagined and got overwhelmed.  Does anyone know of any easy way or have a description of what I would need? I am going to try junk yards for most of it.  Also, is there a way to change the blower motor for a stronger one? The main reason I want a/c and to upgrade the blower motor is when its hot out and it rains the windshield fogs up almost instantly.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Tim

I think some more of the cab is cut away for room for the case and evap coil. It might be more cost effective to get a whole donor truck. There will be condenser, lines, compressor, evap coil, accumulator, case, wiring, blower motor, dash vents and more.

There are easier ways, like getting an aftermarket A/C unit.

I am doing a total custom "stock" setup myself, putting in automatic climate control using bits from a 1988-93 fullsize, a 1989-94 Olds Cutlass Supreme and others.

Is this a factory AC or non AC truck?

I would say it's a non A/C truck.

I found this thread and it should be helpful to you.

Red ac won’t fix the window fogging up. My 94 does that unless I roll down the windows. It also depends on if the fog is out side or inside but if I can remember right rain-x will help with the fog rolling off the windshield

If it is a non AC truck, there are aftermarket AC systems which look better and are fairly simple to install.

And won't be much more if you bought new stuff like vile said. Here's someething else if your compressor goes up your supposed to replace most of the AC parts anyway and if you buy from the yard you don't know what your geting
