  • Family is not an important thing. It's everything.
I think what he’s asking is what does he need to get his old 203 to bolt to his new 400 cause the 205 that came off his 400 is awd (didn’t know they came that way) and he likes his 203 cause its part time

well I have no clue either what they are asking but they have part time kits you can put in the full time cases. They have several different adapters for t-cases maybe you can find one for the th400 and use the th350's old t-case, or convert the 400 t-case to part time.

Or if you don't need the th400 you can trade it to a trans rebuilder and he'll gladly rebuild the th350 for you for the th400 ours did.

OK I will shoot at it!  ???
(1) As far as I know 205s never came full time / AWD.
(2) If it has 8 lug wheels it can only be a K20, or K30.
(3) 84 with a 205 if its original would be a K30, a K20 would have been a 208 t case.
(4) Sounds to me like the 84 with the fresh 350, fresh TH400, and a 205 is the no brainer drive train to use.
Which one has the better cab, and sheetmetal?
Personally I would use the better cab on the 84 chassis, and personal preference her and if it was salvageable the 79 front clip.

Welcome to the site! Not to sound like your 7th grade English teacher, but if you want converse with people that don't know you & can't see what your talking about...your at least going to need to use some capital letters, punctuation & break this stuff down into sentences to some degree. This will help other help you by understand what it is your wanting/trying to do.
As for your pieces & parts, Blazin has you pretty much covered.
I'm guessing that you have the numbering of the transfer cases amiss & possibly a truck or Two with mis-matched parts.
The gear driven cast iron (smaller case) is the NP 205, it is a part time unit & has never been a awd(?). It has been made in coarse spline (manual transmissions), TH 350 input shaft & Th400 input shaft. Without adapters or disassembling the units guts...you can not put one on the other transmission.
The chain driven cast iron (BIG) case is the NP 203, it is originally a full time unit, however many kits are available to convert it to a part time unit. Likewise, the input is either TH 350 or TH 400.
The Aluminum case is the NP 208, it is a part time unit that comes in all Three input splines.
Sort out what you have for sure or post some pictures & someone will tell you what you have & go from there. Good Luck on your build, Lorne
