« on: September 11, 2010, 09:16:57 am »
Just looking on some advice on the sort of mud tires you guys are running and what you guys would advice me to buy? Looking for something with great hook up in mud and snow but still decent for the road. thanks marc the tires are going on a 1985 gmc k5 jimmy planning on lifting it yet this will be a mud toy and side road breaker mostly.

Swampers do ok in the slush and mud but the road ain't to friendly on them I would look at ground hawgs. Seam to do real good in mud and last on the. The last time I looked at tires someone once told me that if they handle good in the mud they will also in the snow

I wouldn't recommend running swampers or hawgs if your going to be doing any amount of road driving, they are very loud, and wear very quickly. If you can get a hold of some old stlye BFG muds, I would recommend those, the new ones might be just as good, but I've only ran the old ones. I'm running interco trxus muds right now, and they are dead quiet on the road, very good off road, and deadly in the snow. They wear noticably faster than the BFG muds, and don't handle quite as well on the road, but are still a good tire in my opinion.

iv ran 39x18.5 boggers and they where not bad tires at all but dont last long
39x15 micky T's good in sand
36x12.50 swampers TSL's they did good but could be better
35x12.50 good year MTRs hands down the best tire iv ran on the street and the mud.
35x12.50 BFG m/ts crappy tires i hated them
now i have a set of 42x15 TSL that i just use for off road but they do good
but the best tire iv had that looks mean and sounds mean and is mean is the super swamper TSL SX i have a set of 35x15.50 and there still going strong

i had some yokohoma geolander mt's on my old truck and they were great for offroad (mud snow rocks whatever).   i only got 20000 miles out of them and they are directional thread, so rotating was not typical.   i compared them to having suction cups on my tires, they would just hook up and pull you through.  but, the rubber is comparable to a dirt bike tire and i only got a year and a half out of them with 50/50 on/off road driving.

Heard mixed feelings on the KM2's. Hopefully you like them! I'd love to try them on my Dodge, but at over 500 bucks a pop, that won't happen. Shame too, I loved the old style BFG's. Same with the Goodyear MT/R's. They worked killer, then they went and changed the design.. The Chevy doesn't get driven much and had brand new Toyo M/T's on it when I got it, so it'll be a while before that gets new rubber. I've always been against the Toyo's, but I guess we'll see how they do.

I've heard mix reviews with the KM'2.

Around here,we use alot of the Toyo Open Country's M/T's for daily drivers. Especially on heavy trucks.Pretty good wear, not too loud either.

Hard to beat a bogger in the mud though.... ;D
