HELP! Belt routing (Pictures!!!)

Finally have all the brackets figured out and the belt for the crankshaft, water pump, and alternator works out perfectly.  However, the belt for the crankshaft, water pump, power steering pump, and air conditioning compressor ain't workin' as I had pictured in my mind.

First off, I know the belt is too long, but even with a shorter belt, I'm not sure that the belt will get tight enough to work properly.  I'm really not sure what I need to do at this point.  This thing has frustrated me to the max., to be honest.

Here is with the rope mock-up.  It doesn't look tight, but pulling the heck out of the compressor and putting the power steering pump in a certain position, it was considerably tight.  This way, there seemed to be plenty of tension on the belt (rope), but now that I have an actual belt, I'm really not sure...

Can you put a belt on the PS pump and the rear groove of the compressor? Cant tell if those two line up or not.

Yeah, the pulleys lining up is not the issue.  The power steering pulley is off a tad in the pictures, but that is because the bolts are loose and the pump is sagging. My concern is the belt not getting tight enough.

You need 3 belts.  The power steering needs its own belt.

Dang it!!!!  I was afraid someone was gonna' say that.

Hmm.  Maybe that is the only reasonable fix to this problem....

However, that means buying different pulleys and waiting for them to come in, buying another belt, etc.

I think I got it figured out on my own, ya'll.  I had taken a couple week long break from this thing because when I first got goin', I was goin' like the Energizer bunny and kinda' got temporarily burned out.

I sat back, had a beer(s), and looked at this thing for a bit.  Then I had an idea...eliminate the crankshaft pulley!  So, I pinched the belt together to shorten it to see if it looked like it would work.  It looked like it would work considerably better so I re-measured and after work I went to Advance Auto Parts for the millionth time and got a shorter belt.  Came home and put it on and I think it'll work.

I half-way tightened the belt and I can't turn any of the pulleys while holding an opposite pulley still, so I think it's grabbin' all three pulleys pretty good.  (I've heard, more than once, from more than one person, that a belt is generally tight if the pulley can't be turned inside the belt.)

What do ya'll think?

looks like it might work, but I would have it be crank, water pump, PS and a/c on the other side crank water pump alt. The way it is now it's like a serpitine setup, you loose the alt. belt you loose everything, no water pump, no ps, no charge nothing. At least the way I mentioned you save the motor and can make it home, either w/o alt. or without ps and a/c.

Very interesting point you make.  Never once thought of it that way.  This pick-up is my sister's and just goes back and forth to school and work and then back home.  We live in a small town and in a day the vehicle may drive 10-15 miles, more depending on if any other errands are ran (rare).  In other words, there are no long trips done with this pick-up.  Still a valid point, however.  I think, for now, that I will leave it like this.  I already have so much money (and time) in this thing.  On down the line sometime, I/someone will buy some three groove pulleys to go in the middle to add a little insurance.

You have too many loads on that belt like that. I would fabricate another bracket or use a factory AC compressor

Are you using studs for the water pump pulley?

Did you shim your alternator bracket forward?

Yeah, using studs.  Still using the factory mechanical cooling fan, by the way.

Didn't shim the alternator bracket forward to my knowledge.  If I did, it wasn't on purpose.  lol

I was just curious because I count about 7 washers between the chrome alternator bracket and the water pump.
