Auto workers

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

They almost made that clip comical, if it wasn't for the fact I was paying their wages......

"Dozens of autoworkers in Detroit were caught on camera drinking beer and smoking marijuana before heading to work at the Chrysler plant that President Obama praised in a speech just two months ago."
thats all i had to read and made me laugh

i wonder if the UAW has it in their contracts that they can't be drug tested randomly, and if not, there is probably something in their that if they test positive for drugs....well, nothing can be done.  Aren't unions great for Americans?
Their supervisors 'have' to smell alcohol on their breath.  But, they are probably powerless to do anything.
If i did that on my job, it would take about 2 seconds for me to be in the unemployment line.

There are two unions where I work.  The employees worth having do not need a union and the ones that are worthless are impossible to get rid of.  When times get rough we're forced to lay off by seniority.  Some talented employees get the boot and the ones with seniority who have become complacent struggle to do the job.  They tie our hands--not even allowing management to choose who works there and then blame management for everything.  How can you blame management when unions take away their right to manage?  The guys in that article probably won't get any punishment.  We sent a guy for a drug test and he gave them muddy water from the parking lot as a urine test.  When the technician pointed out to him that this wasn't urine he refused to give a sample and left.  He still kept his job.

With our union people saythey don't do there job and just sit back and take our money and let others get fired. Well if that person didn't call off so much and do their job they would of been in trouble from the get go. Our union is kind of powerless but at the same time its weeding out the no goods and making room for newbies. One thing tho about admin in our contract they give us 15 sick days a year and if you use just 6 then your getting a write up but if you have bars like LT slt or higher you cannot call off 15 times or more however many sick days you have and not even get spoken to

When I was still working at a aircraft maintenance facility, my manager would randomly test a person every three or four months off of my crew of 6-8 and I can tell you, that I know for a fact that a guy they never tested was using HARD drugs, we're not talking about a joint every now and then just a raging coke head. He would never randomly test that guy and when I brought it to his attention that the guy constantly smelled like alcohol he told me I should lay off of him because the guy has had a tough life. I personally am against drug testing in ANY job though, unless its safety critical(aircraft, hospitals, autos, trains etc). I don't think we need to drug test the guy who sweeps the floor, and mops the bathrooms, or the lawn mower mechanic.

i am all for drug tests.  of course, in my field, i am biased...i need to trust someone who may be backing me up.  I need law-abiding people next to me on our side--we do take an oath to uphold the laws and constitution.

If I ever become a business owner, I'll definately have random drug tests, no matter what the job is.  That in itself will weed many undesirables out.  I like people to respect themselves more and others around them and to not have to resort to artificial means to create a high.  I'm high on life everyday.

"I want all of you to know, I will bet on the American worker any day of the week." he told the crowd.

"I wish they could see what I'm seeing in this plant and talk to the workers who are here, taking pride in building a world-class vehicle," Obama said

I think Obama is the one who looks stupid here. You have people all over the US doing this kind of stuff every day. The American car companies have failed to bring the masses of the US what they want and that is why everyone is buying foreign. If these companies need to take bail outs of billions of tax dollars then just let them fold. Not to insult any union workers but unions protect the lazy bums and reward them without recognizing people on an individual basis.

well said, Vile.
I still buy American as much as possible.  When Ford didn't ask for a penny, my wife, with my blessing, bought an escape.  Engineering has gotten better and competitive recently.  But videos like that make me wonder about quality assurance problems.

Well looky what I found on a Dodge truck today at the shop. Truck has less than 5,000 miles on it, all original paint from the showroom. Got a light tap in the rear bumper, tweaked the chrome, and put a couple chips in the paint were it touched the rear quarter. Pulled the bumper off and found what I believe to be a factory repair where the spot welds didn't weld. So some half wit stuck a mig gun up in there and waved it around right before paint!
Here is what it should look like, the right side:

This is what the left side looks like:
