Coil wire

Does anyone know the color of the wire that powers the coil. I'm trying to hook up a new HEI  and I need to replace it with a non-resistor type wire but I'm not sure which of the bulkhead wires feeds the coil.

Are you going from Points to HEI?  If so you cannot use the power wire to the coil from the points setup.  You need switch power off the fuse panel.

Yup, points to HEI. Is there a fuse panel circuit that provides switched power at start AND run? I was going to replace the resistor wire with a regular wire to feed the HEI.

If you remove the resistor wire are you completely removing it and replacing it with a 12 gauge replacement?
I ran mine from the fusebox to the HEI BAT terminal on my 73.  It was labeled switch, but anything that is open and hot with the ignition on will work.

are all switched circuits "Hot" even while cranking? You can leave an inch or two of resistor wire and still get full voltage at the coil. I've done this with other conversions and it worked fine but if I can find a terminal right off the fuse panel I'd rather do that.

Don't leave any of the resistance wire there. Go directly from the fuse block and verify using a test light that you have switched B+ and while cranking.
