EPA wants to increase ethanol to 15%
« on: October 08, 2010, 08:35:09 am »
Guys, read this and then follow up by telling the president to reconsider increasing ethanol content in gasoline to 15% without any studies done on the , enviroment, the economy and our engines.
Chris, If I am breaking any kind or rule here, pull this. I understand.
Thanks in advance,

Not breaking any rules that is something enthusiast need to understand.
I personally think this is a ploy to wear out/diable older vehicles.  The alcohol will eat rubber fuel hose and end up breaking them all.

I think you're right. It will be harmful for piston rings, valve seals and guides as well. We pump a lot of methanol (which is basically the same thing) offshore and it will destroy a steel pump plunger in no time. It has absolutely no lubricating properties what so ever. The only way to make a chemical pump last any amount of time is to use a ceramic plunger with viton o-rings. Adding a little lead to the gas would help but that ain't going to happen.
I always feel like the Gov is out to hurt the little guy every way they can.

Chris is spot on. The only way they can justify bailing out the auto industry is by selling more new cars which creates jobs, saves the environment, blah blah blah. There is an agenda here that started in what, 1970 or so with emissions garbage and degrading the quality of fuels consistently since then. Anybody that thinks differently should explain what exactly the cash for clunkers program accomplished, besides ridding the streets of many perfectly good automobiles and boosting sales of new junk that will never have the longevity of some of the classics, like these trucks. I will go out on a limb here and submit that just building a new vehicle produces more harmful pollution than operating one that's already been built long ago, despite the older vehicle not having as many so called pollution control systems in operation. If you want to save the environment you should recycle. I recycled many parts trucks to build an 82 Chevy pickup.
Another consideration is that not everyone handles their finances like our government does. I paid cash for every part and parts vehicle and the title to my pickup is sitting safe and sound in my gun safe, not being traded back and forth by crooked bankers while I send them a check every month.

When they ruin the gas I'll swap in a diesel.
Give a man a gun, and he might rob a bank. Give a man a bank, and he might rob the world.

One good thing that did come from the "Cash for Clunkers" program was that it took about 95% of the Obama stickers off the road!
