windsheild wiper issue...
« on: October 10, 2010, 09:09:55 pm »
I have an 82 GMC K1500, just got it about a month ago and the wipers are standing up when they are off. They go down first, when your turn them on. Anyone know why and what I need to do to fix this the motor looks pretty new. Thanks.

there is a cam switch inside the wiper motor compartment that tells the motor to stop when in the down spot.  It seems when it was installed, it may have moved or something.  It is similar to the old points distributor with breaker points.  The cam arm works similar.  Pop the cover off and you can probably figure it out.

SgtDel,
I'm not sure what to adjust, can you see from this photo with the cover off.

that cam controls when the power turns off.  Something is off kilter.  That cam is telling the motor to turn off at the wrong time.  I would run the wipers while studying the rotation of the cam and try to figure out what it is doing wrong. perhaps a spring has slipped or something.  I can't tell you any more than that unfortunately.

Update:
Had the motor re-seated and now the wipers are the way they should be.
