New; need some advice
« on: October 11, 2010, 06:23:01 pm »
Hello from Jasper, AL.  I've been here a while trying to learn some things, but only one post.  My truck has Freeze 12 in the AC and has done pretty well with it but yesterday the compressor started making a bad noise and appeared to lock up but then started turning again.  I don't think I have a leak as the system has pressure, but it stopped cooling.  Assuming I need a new compressor (its a R4), and the lines have Freeze 12 in them already, would it be best to stay with the Freeze 12 with the new compressor?  Anybody know what type of oil ships with new compressors for our trucks?  Thanks   1986 C10 SWB GM Goodwrench 350

Stay away from Freeze 12 and every other "alternative refrigerant" R134a is inexpensive and effective and won't cause side effects associated with compatibility and oils. Ester is inexpensive as well and readily available with UV dye.

So I'll replace the accumulator and orifice tube at the same time as the compressor?  Should I flush out the  evaporator and condensor and how exactly do you do that?

They sell a flush in a can kind of like orange hand soap but it’s in a liquid form and under pressure then you blow out the system with air to get all that soap out and yes your supposed to replace the accumulator with the compressor and the orifice tube
