fuel line troubles

hey everyone. i started a post awhile ago about fuel line vapor lock. i thought i fixed my problem by getting the line off the valve cover and wrapping the line in foil tape to reduce the heat. now i have a situation where if i drive for awhile and then shut the engine off for a few minutes (to run into the store let's say) it will start up and drive a minute or so and then will cut out on me and then i have to wait about 15 minutes for the fuel to start flowing again. i'm running an elec. pump, but i was running both elec. and mech. together w/o any problems. should i go back to that setup. thanks for any advice.

Are you sure you are running out of fuel? So when this happens if you spray fuel into the carb it fires right up?

Why would you run an electric pump and a mechanical pump? you should have one or the other. If you are having fuel delivery problems to the pump I would check for kinked fuel lines and just get rid of the electric pump.

yes i'm running out of fuel. i have a clear filter by the carb and it goes empty. the p/o had it run that way, elec. and mech. pumps. it's a '77 crew cab long bed so i'm not sure if it came that way or if the mech. pump would be enough by itself to run.

Ya run one pump or the other. If you have a clear fuel filter, you can see what the pump is doing upon that second start up.

thanks beastie for the advice. which would be better elec or mech and would vapor lock happen w/ the mech pump? thanks

I personally like my electric pump. I never have to worry about cranking the engine to prime the carb, or dump fuel down it to start.

i'm going to put the mech. pump back on by itself and see what happens. thanks for the info gents.
