I am tring to figure out how to install my new oil gauge. Cant seem to find out where it goes. I think I might have found the sopt behing the dist. but how do you get at it/? how hard are they to install ? mine is a mech. one.

Are you talking about the sending unit or the gauge? The gauge goes in the dash if you're talking about a factory gauge. The oil pressure sending unit goes in the oil gallery which is in different locations depending on year, engine etc.

most times you install the a new gauge right were you said behind the distributor its a pain but you dont need to take out the dis.

i was talking about the sending unit. I have the gauge inside the cab butI dont have it hooked up yet. Just trying to figure out how hasrd it is and where it is located. My truck is an 85 , 305 4x4

I was told that the sending unit behind the distributor isn't for the gauge reading. The bigger sending unit above the oil filter is where the gauge gets its input, as shown in SgtDel's picture.

The sending unit as shown
is
for the oil pressure guage. The pic is from my '79.
A smaller sending unit is also in same place in my '91 5.7. It too has an oil press. guage

Either location can be used for Pressure. The one at the top is the further away, but there isn't any passages between the 2.
