My new to me 85
« on: October 28, 2010, 01:22:54 pm »
Howdy, all. I am new here and thought I would post up pictures of a project I just picked up.

It is a 85 Stepside Silverado with one original owner. It needs some TLC but is a cool starting place for my plans. The son decided he wanted a black interior so he started changing that over. That is one of the first things I am going to change back.....

Currently it has a 3500 mile 305 in it but I want a 350 so I plan on finding one and pulling this out. I am also going to do a bit of clean up, replacing worn out things, and making it a bit lower.

Anyway, on to the pics.

Welcome. That's a nice truck. It looks like your fuel line is laying on your exhaust manifold.

Yes do yourself a favor and run a steel fuel line the correct way. Are you going to put AC back in it? Good solid project truck.

Great start for a project.  I am assuming that it is 2wd since you said you want to lower it, I haven't seen too many roll bars in the beds of 2wd trucks.  ???   But have fun and keep us posted, always love to see someone's progress.

Vile - I plan on correcting the fuel line as well as install AC. Texas needs AC 9 months out of the year :)

Bake74 - Yes, a 2WD. I thought the same thing as you when I saw the truck. In the bed was a grill guard to match - uhh, not going back on.

Here is some pictures since the initial purchase. I have not been in any serious hurry tho.

Got it lowered first.

Then stripped the interior getting ready to clean it all up and replace the bad stuff

Ready to go to the body shop to get straightened up and get resprayed.

Back from the body shop. A lot of sanding and buffing later ;)

Crummy 305 comes out and new 400 HP 350 going in!!

I have only stabbed the engine so far. I have a lot of details to get thins running right.

Just a note on those header bolts...header bolts don't loosen on their own, The reason they get loose is after people install a set they don't go back and tighten em up the first few weeks of driving, the heat shrinks the header gasket THAT makes the bolts loose, if you tighten em every few day for the first two weeks, you will notice they no long get loose and you won't have any leaks. You can install all the locking mechanisms you want, They will still leak if you do follow that advice.  other than that , looks good, You need to replace that passenger front tire, Its ruined from being run low on air. Wash the engine bay damnit.

perpendicular that truck looks 100% better after you lowered it.  Great call, so with 400 hp, what tranny does it have in it ?

Screamin - Thanks man!
Beastie - It is a biliet cover. Wanted a little bling ;)
Jim - Yeah, true. And these headers are hitting the A-Arm and the brake lines so it looks like I need to order a new set of headers.. Grrrr....
Bake - Thanks! It is a 400 tranny. Slightly beefed up.
