My most recent trade.
« on: November 02, 2010, 07:35:14 pm »
First off to give some back ground, I am in the Navy been in for a total of 5yrs now.  I grew up in south GA and am now stationed in VA again.  This is my 34th vehicle which I will be giving to my father come Christmas.  I grew up one trucks and hotrods so I know my way around them, also have dabbled in all different varieties of vehicles and have decided to come back to truck and build me a nice playtoy which I'm in the process of finding.  Well here is my recent trade I took for a 240sx I had.  Its a 1986 GMC High Sierra, has 147k miles on the body, with a built 350; or at least I was told but the owner couldn't give me specs on the internals.  But she cams really nice, has a accel distributor, edelbrock 500 CFM carb, edelbrock performer intake, sound like a nice cam is in there.  There a little surface rust in the bed other than that she's rust free, only 2 dents in the whole body about the size of a dime on the top of the tailgate and bed rails.  I'll be freshing up the interior and cleaning it up for my father so I can surprise him at Christmas with it.  Well here some pictures, let me know what you think and I'll update while finishing it off for my father.

Yea he's a truck guy, right now he has a truck but its not in the greatest condition and I just want him to have a nice solid truck he can drive around and have fun every now and then.  Its the least I can do for him giving me my first truck which was an 1985 lwb Custom Deluxe.

Well I am glad to hear that you care so much.  Wish there was more like you in the world.  Thanks for your service by the way.

Slow update.......:-[

Got rid of the metal chrome plated grill and found a replacement grill in a yard and sanded it down and sprayed it black to match the bezels as well as resprayed the bezels because they where chipping pretty bad.  Got the door panels out and in process of taking the junky paint off and respraying to look good with a good solid coat so it will be done right the first time.  Then it'll be time to pull the dash pad and refit everything being as fitment is off quite a bit.  Well here is a few pics.

As my paint scheme will be like the old WWII American Bomber being as my father is a big WWII guy, he has all sorts of movies and books about the war.

Alright keep in mind this is a rough drawing I did in about 15-20 mins, hopefully I'll have more time to redo the sketch.  But this is somewhat of what I'm going to be going for on this truck.

I'm hopefully picking up these in 16x8 for the truck Sat. for about $200 or less if they don't sell by then.

Huge B-17 Flying Fortress afficianado here.......

You should consider a nose art graphic for somwhere on the truck.

When I complete my truck I have contemplated a "painted lady" for the rear window. I don't want to spoil the body work, that is why I am looking to painting something on the rear window of mine.

Just try to keep it respectful..... ;)

The tube grill was rusted out and just didn't look good IMO.

New member, I'm Slooby's dad, only I have and will continue to refer to him as Meaty.

Needless to say, I was very surprised this Christmas when the lunkhead handed me a card with the keys and title to the truck. My allergies kicked in and my eyes started watering.

I had a 76 Scottsdale very similar to his 75, and later had a 85 Custom Deluxe which I turned over to him on his 16th birthday. Not mentioning the many other old trucks I've owned, but didn't have the means to restore. (Feeding him and his brothers took up all my funds).

I'd been looking for a project truck for some time, but as his youngest brother is still at home, couldn't justify the expense. All that has changed with the gift.

I haven't had much opportunity to work on it yet, but I did install a tube grill like the one in the pictures, build some oak arm rest and install some mirrors so I could drive it.

Plans for the truck include building my own oak laminate trim, bucket seats, overhead console, and by all means painting it. I think who ever he got it from used 12 grit sandpaper to sand it with.
Stay tuned, photos to come soon.
