i looked up the numbers i posted before and found the 16S444611 means it is 1=chevy, 6=1976, S= st.louis or ramos arizpe, 444611= production of vehicle VIN #. the V0707CKX means V=flint engine, 07=July, 07 the 7th, CKX= 1976 L48 4 BBLS vette with 180hp. so i have a 1976 vette engine made July 7, 1976 with a 4BBL built in either st. louis or ramos arizpe and was installed in the 444611 vette made there, and only make 180hp.
why is the horse power so low? is it all smog crap? if so if i just strip it down and throw a set of headers and an exhaust on it, it already has a holley 570 dual feed on it, should it go better or is it the internals of the motor that i need to work on to make more power?
thanks again, this site is very helpful, i never would have looked for a casting vin code or casting date.
