Stock or Edelbrock intake?

Im building up my new motor to drop into my truck soon, painted it replaced a few things got new parts for it etc, Im using my stock rochester 4bbl carb because it is rebuilt. My friend had a sb in his truck but for what ever reason is sticking a bb he has in there so he has a bunch of aftermarket sb parts and said he would give me a Edelbrock high rise aluminum intake manifold. Is it worth sticking on my motor? with a stock carb and all that, I mean cant beat the price of it lol but still... thoughts??

Aluminum weighs lees too. I think it would be a worthwhile investment.

I don't know enough to answer your question, but I don't think there's enough info. here to answer really.  If this is a stock 350, I don't think I'd stick a high rise intake on it.  If you have an rv cam and high compression ratio, maybe.  I think you need to describe how your motor will be built and what you expect from it.  The wrong intake can really foul things up and make drivability stink.  Your carb. doesn't have much to do with the decision unless the intake only has the square bore pattern in it--in which case it wouldn't work anyway.  You wouldn't want to run an adapter plate with that setup.

When you say "got new parts" are you talking an RV cam and a basic rebuild or a lopey cam, 10:1 compression, AFR heads, 383 stroker bottom-end?  Your total combination is what will determine what manifold works best.

Give us the part number for that "high rise".  There is the #2101 Performer ("low rise" dual plane) and the #7104 Performer RPM ("high rise" dual plane) which have a spread bore carb pad.  If your buddy's manifold has a square bore mounting pad, you should stick with a stock manifold, because the required carb adapter will disrupt air flow and thus fuel distribution, hurting power.

I did that once. A buddy gave me a low rise edelbrock , & I put it on my stock '76 350 with my edelbrock 600 carb, & it was boggin all the time in the bottom end, Swapped it back to the stocker intake & then she'd smoke them 35" tires like there was no tomorrow.

Sorry ya I didnt really explain it that great. My 350 is stock just with a aftermarket intake and hooker headers all the rest is stock, and by new parts I mean I replaced like the alternator and starter and did a bunch of gaskets and the valve covers that sort of stuff, still stock cam and all of that. I got the intake from my friend today it is a Weiland, sorry. What about that square bore stuff? My stock carb wont fit on it?

generally, a high rise manifold will push your torque curve up the RPM range.
It depends how you drive your truck if you might want this intake.

I thought your current intake is stock?  What intake do you have now?

This manifold has a spreadbore carb pad.  It is designed to work with Q-Jets which have much larger secondaries than primaries.

This manifold has a squarebore carb pad.  It is designed for Holley, carter, edelbrock carbs which have primaries and secondaries of nearly the same size.

For a basically stock engine with Q-jet, the best options are to either keep the stock manifold or go with a low-rise, dual-plane, spreadbore manifold like the first one above.

Aftermarket air intake... sorry. 
Im going to drive it as a daily to go to school/work and some ocasional wheeling trips.
It looks like the spreadbore one of those 2, it has the bigger spot for the secondaries and I stuck my carb on it while i was there working on my motor and it fits, just now need to decide if I should run it. And my carb is the stock Rochester 4bbl but rebuilt

Is it a dual plane manifold?  What is the part number cast on it?

Ya ok nevermind, the intakes for a older style block like a 60's style I think where theres no power steering so my alternator slider doesnt have anything to bolt to. I might modify later so it well work but for now back to stock..lol so much for free high rise lol
