Need some quick wheel width advise and clarification please. I've FINALLY run across a set of 16" slots that I'm planning looking at/buying 1st thing tomorrow morning. The wheels are listed as 16x9". Will this width work fine with 255/85/16 BFG MT tires? '74 k20, 2.5" lift. I'm trying to do my internet searching. Seems most slots are 10" width, so these are at least 9". Think I would prefer slightly narrower rims (8"), but just not sure they exist in slots.

I agree, I've never seen/heard of 9" width slots. Only have a straight on shot off the ad, so that's no help. He states they are 9" wide but I'll take a tape measure. I know the 10" wide slot will not fit my needs. 7-8" seems the best rim width for the 255/85, not sure about 9".
I'm surfing fast right now and find no info yet on this combo working. I really want a retro rim (slot or turbo style), just not many narrow rims.
Oh the ad also states 3 rims have 264/75, and one has 245/75. A 5th rim only is also availible. I don't care about existing tires, but they'll be resale material.

The size should be cast or stamped on the back side. If not, since he has a rim with no tire have him measure them.

alot of people measure from the outside lips of the wheel that is wrong, Go from the inside bead lip to the other inside bead lip. Also double check the lug pattern too, Lotta people screw up on that

Went ahead and picked up the wheels. Guess I'm taking a small width chance on my tire goal. Tires are MUCH better (80-90%) then expected so resale should be good.
Rim measures 8.75" inside lip, 4.75" inside hub dia, 6.5" spacing. No inside wheel markings seen yet as they are still too dirty. Major tree pitch on one rim/tire. All wheels seem to match, including the 5th for spare. Got jar of lug nuts, but not sure how many will look nice enough to use.
Here's the before pictures. Got some cleaning supplies and will follow Mike Phillips slot cleaning techinque from a past post.

What is the rim size stamped on the tires?
As Vile said, I've never heard of 16" slots (I have 4 sets of 16.5"s), but I have heard of people stretching a 16" tire onto a 16.5 rim. Some 16" tires used to come with a warning stamped into them warning against this.
Nice set of rims, How much $$ did they set you back?

Tires are qty 3 (VERY good tread) Michelin A/T LTX 265 75 16, qty 1 (bad) Michelin A/T LTX 245 75 16. Even after major clean up, I still do not see a stamping on the inside of the wheel.
After going through a box of SOS pads, bottle of mag wheel cleaner, and a wire brush on a drill for the back. The wheels are looking very nice and in great condition.
Wife wants/suggest me getting a matching 4th tire and run the 265's, but they no longer sell the AT LTX flaver and have updated to a different tread A/T 2 LTX. Besides they are smaller then I want, don't want the white letters out, and not as aggressive as I want. Only going with the BFG MT for the looks as I don't intend to hard core 4x4. The tall tire of the 255 85 is to help with gearing on the freeway around my town.
Practicallity may win. Cheaper, ride nicer, quieter, I'll rotate to blackwall and have them re-ballanced anyway (and fix 2 nail holes). 1 slight miss match tread may not be bad if no lettering shows. Besides happier wife is important.
oh and don't hate me...$170 for all 5 rims and full set of maybe ok looking lug nuts. I'm happy.

WOW I'm beating this thread to death. However I'm still not sure what I have. If someone could help with checking some dimensions, that would be great. Thanks,

Last post, until I get them mounted that is. Went to 2 tires stores with the blank rim. 1st guy told me NOT to use the OLD brittle junk wheels, as they will break as soon as I hit a big pot hole or haul a heavy load. So I was done with him. 2nd store was straight to the point and helpful. Both did give the same spec info on the wheel however.

depending on the look you want, measure the tread of the 255 tires you buy. the tread might be skinnier than the wheel. 255mm = about 10" but that's the section, not the tread width. the tread width will be less, might even be only 8" wide. My 265/75R16 tires are only 8.5" at the tread, while the section (265) is 10.5".
Take into account also, the rims technical width is measured at the inside of the bead. you will see the whole rim lip, so if you want the tread as wide as the wheel looks-wise, on your wheel it should be around 9" to 9.5"
My 275 tires on my 8.5" wheels are BFG's so they're a little oversized, but the tread on those is only .2 wider that the outer part of the rim, the part you see.

Here's the conclusion of the slots.
16 x 8.5 rims. 255-85-16 BFG MT KM2
BFG site claims this tire is best for 6.5-8" rim width. My set-up/looks are ok to me. "Prefect" - not quite, but I'm very happy.
Ride is considerably nice then the old bia 7.5x16's on original split rims. Noise is also much quieter.
Some people may not like this look, that's fine. It came out just like I wanted at this time in life for me, grandpa's truck, and the family needs.
HUGE THANK YOU for all the advise and help to get to this point. GREAT site.
