Horn won't work

On my 85 GMC K-2500 , the horn just quit working , it was working fine, but I was going to take it to get it inspected, and found out it won't now. I checked the fuse and the horn itself. Is there a relay or someting I'm missing ?

The horn works when you actually take it off the truck and hook it to a battery. Where is the relay located ?   Thanks !

There's two horns an A and an F note. If the fuse is not blown go to the base of the column to the flat connector and look for the black wire (I think it's cavity G off the top of my head but you can verify that in the wiring diagrams) stick a paper clip in there and use a jumper wire to ground. It should sound the horn. report back.

There is a flat connector with a dark blue and nuetral colored wire, if that is the one you are refering to, I tried what you suggested and got nothing.

Yes the horn worked when I done what you said. Now what ?

Then the problem is in the column. Pull the horn pad off and check the connection. Stock wheel?

Hey guys sorry to bring up a dead post but ive traced my horn problems up to where that black wire goes into that connecter. What does that wire come into contact with between that flat plug and the steering wheel. Put me in my place if anything im saying is wrong but i was thinking that black wire is a ground that when u push the horn button down completes the relays circuit and sends power out to the horns.

When you depress the horn button (This is a momentary switch) It completes the path to ground for the horn relay. If you have the same issue as described in this thread then pull the horn button and check your connections...

There is a plunger that rides against a slip ring under the steering wheel, eventually the plunger wears out and can't make contact with the slip ring. Remove the horn pad and then you will see where the horn wire goes into the steering wheel base, inside a piece of black plastic push down and twist and it should pop up , inspect the pin. if its short, you can pick up another one.

Thanks guys i got my nice !!LOUD!! new horn working It was actually funnier then heck...I was honking my horn to see how it sounds and my brother decided to go honk his tacoma that set up awesome for 4 wheeling to compare it to mine. It sounded like the road runner Meep Meep
But anyway it turned out that the contacts right back in the column behind the steering wheel were all dirty. cleaned em with some steel wool and it worked like new

I don’t have a horn  so the other day this woman was turning left on the highway (two lanes going each way) got about 3/4 of the way in the turning lane and stopped lucky I thought there was a car to the left of me couldn’t see them but I had to go about a foot in their (to the right of me) lane to avoid the woman so once I got up beside her I was almost at a stop cause we just left the light and I was trying to slow down cause of her I just laid on the gas and piped her thank God for open headers think I scared her more than told her she screwed up lol

VileZambonie, I have the same problem with my horn. So i read this post and did what you said about the black wire and grounding it. My horn didnt work, but interesting enough i also touched the green or teal wire next to it and my buzzer under the dash worked. So if you can answer these two questions. What else do i need to look at for my horn? and Two now that i know the buzzer works what do i need to do to make it function properly?

The buzzer is hooked up to the ignition cylinder and if it doesn't work you're lucky because they are annoying.

The horn - The fuse isn't blown and you have B+ to the horns when you depress the horn button?
