good score today!!
« on: November 26, 2010, 06:32:42 pm »
so i went to the gas station this morning and there is a guy that works there who tryed to sell me some rears before..i asked him what ratio they were and he said he wasnt sure and he would get back to me..that was about a year ago..so when i went there this morning he approached me and said he just wants them out of the yard and i could have them..so at that point i really dont care what ratio they have..he told me that he pulled them out of a military blazer..not too sure if they used half ton rears in the military trucks or not..i went and picked them up tonight and the rear is a 12 bolt and the front might be a dana,,it was dark and i really didnt get a good look at them..so heres my question...did they use half ton rears in military trucks and if so what would a common ratio be? im hoping on 373s....right now im running 308s with a th400 tranny and is a little sluggish off the line...

They should both be 10 bolts if they are original. Could be 3.73s, 3.42s, or 3.08s. Most likely if its an original rear it will have a limited slip. Non of the Blazers got any bigger axles that I know of.
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

If they are rears how is there one for the front? Your best bet is to post pix and pull the covers off to check the ratio's/condition.

ok where i come from we have always called both front and rear differentials(rears) lol..so anyhow i took the cover off the rear today and found that it is a limited slip, but unfortunatley i saw the numbers stamped on the ring gear 14/43 which turns out to be a 3.08..oh well i was hoping on 3.73 but thats ok now if i blow the one out of my truck i have a replacement and wont need to change the front as well..here is a pic i took with my phone(battery wasnt charged in the digital camera so i have no flash)..

Is that the front rear or the rear rear? lol Put it on Craigslist and see if anyone wants to swap.
