What's UP!
« on: December 05, 2010, 08:51:42 pm »
Hey Everyone!

My name is Jeff, I’m 26 and am currently serving in the Army as a Longbow Apache technician.  Just got promoted to Sergeant and I am currently stationed at Fort Hood, gearing up to deploy to Afghanistan.  I did one tour in Iraq which is where I bought my current rolling project, a 1988 Chevy R30 Crew Cab Dually.   (more on that in a minute)  Before I joined the Army I worked as a truck / trailer mechanic for about 8 years.   My uncle, whom I worked for, was always willing to take on new jobs, even if we’d never tackled it before.  That kind of work is instrumental in fostering the good ol’ American “Can-Do” attitude.  I did two years in college chasing a degree in Technical Education (fancy term for a shop teacher)  When my Uncle shut down the shop and went out on the road trucking, I put together a service truck and went into business for myself doing trailer repairs for about half a dozen customers.  The fuel spikes in 2007 hit everyone hard and I decided to git while the gettin’ was good and that landed me in the Army…. 

Back to the reason for being here.  Ever since I was a kid, I always wanted a 73-87 style Chevy crewcab dually.  While we were in Iraq I hunted and hunted until one day I found my current baby.  It’s powered by a 454 TBI spinning a THM-400 trans backed by a Gear Vendors Overdrive (highly recommend them) and  putting the power to the duals through a Dana 60 (or 70, didn’t bother to check the code)  It’s “primer” black with blue and white pinstriping, lowered 4 inches front and rear and has a solid (no windows) camper shell out back.

Eventually I’d love to reconfigure the drive train with a 496 spinning an NV4500 through the overdrive unit and out through a Dana S135 drive axle.  Now that’s a lot of money right there so we’ll see what happens.  For now I’m hacking away at all the typical maintenance issues associated with a 22 year old truck; weatherstripping, suspension, brakes, and so-forth…. Gives me something to do 

Glad to be here, looking forward to talking to yall…
