Sub box for my Burban

Subs have been on my to-do list for a while, so I thought since its cold and snowy out, I can build this box inside where its warm.  I am putting 2 12's in a round box in the spare tire well then hiding them using the factory spare tire cover,  sneaky sneaky.  the hard part was figuring out how to make plywood round.  So I got a sheet of 1/4" plywood and cut it into 9" strips and will glue the strips together in a circle 3 layers thick totaling 3/4" then capping it with 3/4" top and bottom

So I got 3 layers glued and screwed, this is where I stand, Its slightly larger than I wanted 35in diameter.  i still have to sand and plane the edges and put the top and bottom on, and divide it for each sub.

looks great. I did a larger version of curving plywood on a rounded stairwell, I found that a paint roller and pan full of wood glue work great.

Yes a roller and a pan of glue work great.  Also used lots of screws to overkill everything together.

So i put the divider in and planed/ sanded all the edge flat, and put sound deadening padding along the inside.  I just have to make the top and bottom and seal them to this piece.

Got the top and bottom cut out, the bottom is glued and screwed.  Still have to finish sound dampening and get top put on.

Right on. I know of a guy who had a mid-90s Sub and put 3 8's in a sub box that looked like a spare tire. He decided to use multiple layers of 3/4" MDF all cut into rings. That took a lot of rings! Guess he didn't mind the price of buying all that wood only to waste most of it.

8s?  what good is an 8?  By my calculations I have 2 cu ft per side, so I'm looking for 2 big 12s or decent sized 15s.  depth is the only issue, good quality subs are pretty deep and I only have 10" to work with.

You must have never heard a good set of 8's in a decent system. I've heard plenty. Not much else though can belt out some fat, fat bottom end (like 30 Hz and down) like a pair of 15's though.

plywood will never work unless u silicon the holeee inside of the box and u divided it so the 15 wont work plus looks like its kinda a tight space for 12s maybe 10s
plywood doesn't make good boxes cuz the poor layer gluing which allows to much air to escape

Old thread is old. Out of all of the many sub boxes I have seen, only like 3 of them werent made of.plywood. Those 3 were fiber glass. And the plywood ones sealed great. A completely non ported box with 1 twelve sealed to the point that when you pushed the cone in, it pushed back from the air that was inside and then took several seconds to come all the way back out.

i was just about to say  mdf is what i always use. .... unless people are calling mdf plywood.   i hope they are.  i couldnt imagine building a box out of plywood.
