Power steering box interchange ...

I might be replacing a sloppy power steering box, on my 1980 3/4T, 2wd. What newer year boxes , are a direct bolt-in replacement?
Thanks

Generally speaking 1973-80 for standard. 1981-87 for metric.

Do all those years have the same diameter and spline count, on the steering column shaft, or ....... are there some variations? Also, are all power steering box shafts, (to rag-joint) , the same?

I put the steering box of a 90 4x4 blazer on my 79 4x4 gmc. The only difference is the hose fittings that go into the box.

I put the power steering box from an 86 4wd burban on my 79 c20. Direct bolt up. Only thing I can tell that is different is the pitman arm I believe. And it makes my trucks turning much more reactive to the wheel and its misaligned slightly to the left, so my wheel is about a 16th turn to the right to go straight. Only thing I can tell. But, the powersteering box may have been replace with a 2wd one on the burban before I got it, I wouldn't know.
