mirrors!
« on: December 15, 2010, 01:11:31 am »
I've got a 79 c20 and it has the compact chrome mirrors. I aquired them from some junkers since it had none when I bought it. But, I'm having some really irritating issues with them. For some reason, both mirrors rotate clockwise from where I set them. The drivers side turns in towards me and the passenger side rotates out away from me. I tried tightening the clamps on the stem of the mirrors with no luck. Any suggestions? Maybe set them where I want them and put a screw through the clamp, through the stem?

If you don't care if they will not swing in or out, you could drill a hole in the stem as you said and either put a screw or a nail in them. Some of the after market ones don't stay put as well as the factory ones did.

With my budget, no. They are not cheap enough. I don't have 40 bucks for 2 new mirrors when I have 2 that I got for free. I'd much rather presidential rig my current ones, because good enough will get my by. I'm not looking for perfect. Unless you guys wanna get me some mirrors for christmas!!!

Put a strip of rubber under the clamp on the stem.  it will make the clamp be able to tighten up a bit more, and the rubber will grip the metal.  the softer the rubber, the better.  a piece of old tire inner tube works well.
