laptops

well finally found something that i can make payments on but some of the computer talk i understand and some well i don't like
"1.8GHz AMD Phenom II triple-core mobile processor P820 with VISION technology" now is that going to be better than "VISION technology from AMD with 2.9GHz AMD Phenom II dual-core mobile processor N640" or Intel Core i3-350M processor (2.26GHz). i was thinking something from qvc since i can make payments and still have it. http://www.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp.aspx/app.nav/params.class.2120.level.3/walk.yah.0103-1084?venue=cgen also was thinking about hp heard dells are crap and Toshiba well i don't know any about name just sounds crappy lol
need some advice on what to get want a monthly payment around 200 also but at the same time i don't want to spend to much on a laptop i would be mainly uploading and downloading stuff via cell phone internet but at the same time if i set it up to dsl or what not, if i want to play a game or so i don't want to be crashing everytime you turn around

Really with technology being what it is, the processor isnt as important any more as they are all super fast. The important thing is atleast a gig of DDR and ample hard drive for what you plan on using it for.

If you could wait and save up for a couple months, it would probably be better. The new 2011 models come out next week. The 2010 models will be slashed drastically! I bought my wife a new HP Laptop for Christmas. she's on it right now ..LOL..The i3 and i5 Pentiums are great processors, there still Duo core and not quad core (Gaming) I would try and get  2ghz or better with 4 gigs of Ram and a 250-500 hard drive.

My wifes is 2.4Ghz 4 gig memory and 500 hard drive with the I3 Pentium and a 17.3 monitor..$499 at office depot. All the new stuff runs windows 7 and it takes about 2 gig of memory to run the program so look for big memory, as far as hard drive most people will never fill up an 80, but the bigger ones have more storage and write a little faster.

All of my computers have at least 2 gigs of memory but 4 is ideal.

My comp has 4 DDR Ram, a terrabyte hardrive and the quadcore processor. I do some pretty tech heavy things with my comp though. The average person would not need all this.

Dells are not crap.  I swear by them.  I have had compaq laptops, and they are crap.  Dell desktop, I cannot testify, but the Dell notebooks are awesome.  The hinges stay intact, the two Dell notebooks I have had in the past 5 years, both second hand from ebay, have been awesome. The one I type on right now i use several hours each day and have had it for about 3 yrs and bought it for about $250 then.  I did install a new wireless modem when i received it.  I just love XP and don't want Vista or 7.  I am used to XP and when i find something i like, i don't like to change it.

Now prices are coming wayyyy down on notebooks and I will upgrade maybe next Spring.  I have filled up my 80gb hard disk w/ my thosands of pics and hundreds of mp3 albums, but, i have two external 100gb hard drives that I put most of my mp3's and pics on now.

I love Dells, the keypad and monitor hinges hold up extremely well.

I've had dell and HP laptops.  They're both real good as far as I can tell.  I also have a little gateway netbook and haven't had problem one in a year or so.  I haven't had any other brands so I can't comment on them.

I like the HP's a little more though because they have available that nifty dock that let's you plug in everything from a monitor, to usb stuff to the power cord and LAN and speakers so when I hook my laptop upto my desk stuff its one connector and everything I have is hooked up.  And the dock still works with each new HP laptop i get.  I've got a 17" HP DV9715nr right now, but it's about time to upgrade again and give this one to the kids.

What exactly do you want to do with it, what size screen do you want, and will you use it mostly plugged into AC power or on betteries?

What are your computer specs right now?  is it fast enough?

Here's just a guess, It would be faster than my laptop, and mine isn't bad even after 3 years for a laptop.  I can actually play some video games on mine.

We just got our daughter a Toshiba from their site for Christmas. It is brand new so I don't know how it will hold up but it seems great so far. I gave it to our computer guru who cleaned out the bloatware that it had on it and he also installed some software for us. He said it was a decent computer for what we paid ($649).

Like "SgtDel" Pointed out, the Dells are not crap. Everything goes in phases..First it was Gateway, and the Sony, and Toshiba, and Dell. Now HP is pretty popular.

Don't overlook brands you haven't seen before, Like MSI. MSI builds just about all the pieces that the Laptops listed above have in them, Now so they decided to go ahead and build their own. There tough as nails and run Good. Lenovo, is another one most people haven't heard of (Lenovo = IBM) some claim they are the NP205 of Laptops, Army Grade.

One other thing to keep in mind, No matter how Big or Bad your computer is, it will only be as fast as your ISP will allow. So try to invest in a High Speed connection. I like my Roadrunner, from my cable provider.

I am on my second Dell right now and both have been good. They both made a lot of miles flying in baggage comparts of choppers offshore and have held up well. The 1st one got a virus and the hard drive fried. Before that I had a compaq presario and it was junk. I'd get another Dell if I had too.
