MSD Distributor
« on: January 18, 2011, 06:37:46 pm »
I have a used MSD "Pro billet ready to run" distributor # 8360. Ive had it in storage for a long time and finally pulled it out.

Worth putting in? If so, any suggestions/tips on maximizing its performance? Suggested coil/ignition box?

Definitely, put it in. External HEI module like the 6A, MSD coil, replace the cap and rotor too.

OK. I already have a external coil that I'm running, I think its the Blaster 2.

Should I keep the advance springs that are in there, or will I not know until I play with it?

I ran my MSD for months before I put some high quality plug wires on it, and only then did I really see an amazing difference. That's one area where you don't want to go cheap. Should be a great setup.

Mine were made at the local race shop with these components:

Alright, everybody needs a good laugh now and then, just don't tell my wife where all the money goes. I was thinking they were $150 but I found the slip and I bought other stuff that day as well. I gave $125 for the wires.
I see now that Summit prices beat the local parts houses on the MSD stuff by a mile.

Mine were cut for routing over the valve covers and numbered, and they fit well. Not alot of extra slack, etc. so it looks real clean. And, you can see that they defy gravity, which was a big selling point for me ;D

beastie: If you know that you will be changing the center plate and weights on that dist, it would go much smoother working on it at a bench. I dropped one of those little c-clips and it took me an hour to find it. Swapping springs is no big deal, but those little clips that hold the plate on can be tedious, and elusive if you drop one.

No progress yet. I have my radiator out right now, so the dizzy is at the bottom of the list. I will update when I get to it. Need to save $ for wires too.
