silly question
« on: February 25, 2011, 04:48:04 pm »

Hi guys I did warn you about silly questions!

Do you need to run the oil cooler for the trans? If not, what do you do with the hoses!

cheers

Definitely. You will burn up your trans really quickly if you dont have it plumbed through a cooler, either in your radiator, an auxillary cooler, or both.

Cheers Grim > couldn't ask for a quicker answer!

Thought I read somewhere you could by-pass it but was probably tired and making no sense  ;D

no no, you need a cooler. you can bypass the radiator cooler if you think its dirty and just use a aux cooler.

Aha Beastie that's poss what I was reading!

The cooler by that main radiator looks pretty poor so maybe an aux one could be the solution.

cheers guys

You should run both coolers.

cheers for the info guys.

The cooler that sits infront of the main rad is pretty beat up and was gonna join the hoses  ::)

Looks like I need to spend more $ and get an aux kit too. Is there a min size I shoud go for in an after market product?

cheers as always

Do not bypass the radiator cooler. Although it's called a cooler its primary job is to maintain or regualte trans temp. An auxiliary cooler is a good idea if you're doing anything that will generate more heat such as towing, offroading, racing etc.

So (sounding daft!) I can run through the proper rad for pottering about but for anything more use the aux one.

Is there any particular size for the aux one I should aim to use (minimum) please don't say "the bigest" ;)
