Hello, I have an 80 GMC 4x4 that i was fortunate enough to buy from the original owner 3 yrs ago with less than 30k documented original mis. The truck was fully equipped with all the options of the time including a 4 speaker am-fm 8 track system. I am the type of person who loves old original stuff like that so i was happy as heck when the guy handed me a box of tapes. The problem i have is here recently the 8 track is only playing outa the left side speakers, If someone reading this is not laughing like heck or wondering what an 8 track player is and might have some idea of what i can do the help would be greatly appreciated. Im sorry but there is nothing like driving an old truck like that and listening to that old style sound of Waylon Jennings on 8 track so i would really love to fix it somehow.

It could be as simple as the wires to the right side are disconnected some how, or bad speakers. pull it out and look around. if its good, try hooking up something else to the right speakers. Does it have a balance knob?

Try cleaning the heads on your 8 track player really well. I doubt anyone still makes cleaning kits for those, so use some rubbing alcohol and cotton swabs. I have a cassette deck in my truck, and after it sits over the winter time, it usually only plays out of one side until I clean the heads. Or, maybe a mouse took a poo in yours. I dunno. Give this a try, it's easier than looking for broken wires.

Could be cold solder joints inside the radio. I know a good radio guy, if you need someone.

I can't believe no one has asked what an 8 track is yet? I know what they are, but I've seen younger kids ask what cassette tapes are.

There are two tools needed, duct tape and WD40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD 40.

I have an adapter to play cassettes in my 8-track/record player, and I'm only 31, lol. Gotta love a 300 lb. music machine.
What is this i-tunes you speak of?

I don't know, I'm half tuned right now
If you have an extra speaker laying around, I would remove the player and hook that speaker up to one of the right speaker channels to see if the player output is working. If it is, your problem isn't the player, but the wiring or the speakers in the truck. Since it's
both
right speakers not working though, I would suspect that it's in the player.

Sorry
beastie
, but I'm going to put 25 cents down and say that the right channel is out on the player itself, it happens to those old music doohickeys. It may be e-Bay time for you. But I hope that it is just loose connections. It would be worth losing 25 cents for someone to have an easy fix.

Yes, def. eliminate a wiring issue first. If you find it is the radio maybe you could send it somewhere and have new guts put in and those new guts mated to the 8-track?
I bought a 65 Buick Riviera one time and it had a 8-track radio in it. The guy gave me a case of about 30 tapes when I picked the car up. They are pretty cool.
