Dash to column intermittent wipers help
« on: March 03, 2011, 01:28:22 pm »
I have a 83 chevy 4x4 manual trans truck . Has a tilt column but with delay wipers mounted in dash. tired of reaching to turn my wipers on.   I am currently  installing a 84 chevy tilt column :) with delay wiper switch on the column. This column came out of a manual trans truck as well.  Has the stalk for hi/lo beams wiper/ delay and cruise.  Not interested in cruise just hi/lo beam and wipers to work correctly.   Anyone ever make the swap before.  New to this forum and any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

I was thinking of doing this with my 74, but am still in the air.  I wonder if you can just take that stalk and wiring off the 84 column and swap it in...

If you do it, take the whole column. The dimmer switch is a direct plug in. Unplug it from the floor peg switch and plug it into the switch on the side of the newer column. I recently put an 84 column in my 82, but I haven't yet rewired it for the blinker stalk wiper controls. If you get to it first post up the details, and I'll do the same.

Are you going to replace the dash bezel as well? Is this a nice looking truck or just a beater?

Did anyone work out the wiring on the wipers and turn signals on this type column swap? I am ready to go with it now if anyone has the info, it will be much appreciated.
