Clutch size

well my throw out bearing just went out and the clutch is wore out so how do i know what size clutch i have 11 or 11 and 7/8 i want to have the new one ready before i pull the old out thanks

It could be either one actually.  You should be able to take the inspection cover off and do some measuring.  A small tape measure to figure out the diameter of the flywheel then measure how far the clutch is from the edge multiply by 2, and subtract...

11 7/8" is more common but find a supplier who can have both of them for you so you can match it up.

I got the 11 and 7/8 they call it a 12 but i got it now waiting on a clutch fork mine the tabs are broke that hold the throwout bearing

got it all together now there is no resistance on the pedal and when depressed it stays on the floor it is a linkage type assembly no slave cylinder or whatever you call it

You put it back together and there is not pressure on the pedal?  Is the throwout bearing installed right?  Clutch fork in right?

i got it fixed i had the adjustment rod adjusted all the way in to get it on the clutch fork and hadnt adjusted it right yet that was the problem its back running better than ever now and the pedal is alot easier to push now my old pressure plate had 3 fingers i guess you call em the new one had alot

Your old one is known as a borg, and beck style. They are much better than a diaphragm style that you have now.

why are the borg and becks better

They have more holding pressure. I have seen the fingers in a diaphragm style fail too, one or more get week and not return back to the realeased position all the way. Have also seen one or more of them break off.

well that sucks ill probably have to replace it later anyway since i put in a NAPA clutch set but when i get my 383 built what do yall think i should put in for a clutch also should i convert to hydraulic

I never use anything but diaphram clutches.  Just me.

My 74 went through two of the old style pressure plates in 18 months. Granted the PO prolly rode the clutch like a little old lady but I've got a year on the diaphram clutch now and I'll never go back.
